Summary

When an unidentified female body is discovered laid out on a slab in an abandoned butcher's shop, the cause of death is unclear. Her body bares no marks - except for the fact that her lips have been carefully stitched shut.

It is only when the full autopsy gets underway at the Los Angeles County morgue that the pathologist will reveal the true horror of the situation - a discovery so devastating that Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation.

But when his inquiry collides with a missing person case being investigated by the razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love has become hate.

Not his best

Enjoyed this book as much as the rest so far, but it seemed to have a hesitant start so it took a while to get into, but once started it picked up pace and went well.
Shame one of the protagonists died as I was hoping she would turn into Hunters new love interest.
Would of made for great development.

Another thrilling listen from Chris Carter.

Another enjoyable but dark and violent thriller from one of the best writers of the 21st century. Chris Carter never fails to come up with a unique storyline. The narrator unfortunately let the production down for me, by making Garcia sound like Robin to Hunters Batman!

Enjoyable, but...

Brilliant standard of writing as usual from CC. Not as enjoyable as his last two books but a gripping read as always. Classically gruesome, as is CC's usual style. Didn't like the villain reveal, just ugh. Not as *shock, omg* as usual but a very thought out reasoning so its defo still a huge recommend. Narrator on point as usual.

Another amazing one, but...

The third one in the series and still manages to keep you gripped and guessing.
But I do have one criticism about it and namely the fact that most times I, the reader, seem to figure things out much faster than the lead detective's partner, colleagues or even captain. And it's not because of the insight the reader might have, just putting 2 and 2 together.
Robert Hunter is portrayed as a genius of a detective and he is admirable indeed, but at times it seems like everyone around him is a senile grandpa.
Apart from that, another great story and great performance!

gripping and horrific

not for the faint of heart. very good story but very graphic. The phycological aspect of the story was done very well and all loose ends were tied up nicely.
