"Almost too ingenious...very clearly and brightly told. (Times Literary Supplement
This is Poriot's first ever case after leaving the Belgian Police Force.
Hastings is sick leave at Styles with an old friend, the mistress, of the house is well known for her generosity, that's how Poriot comes to England, then suddenly one night cries, of shear pain, & distress, comes from her room, the door, is smashed down, & she's convulsions, on the bed, within minutes, she's dead, but where is her husband no one knows Hasting goes to his friend, to ask if Poriot, can investigate he agrees that is where the confusion starts who why how can Poriot sort it??
I did not know this story and realising it was read by Hugh Fraser who plays Hastings was interested to hear it. He was fantastic! He read with such clarity and used wonderful accents for the other characters. I listened to it whilst on holiday around a pool and it was easy to pick up again if I had been interrupted. Highly Recommended!
Hugh Fraser does an excellent job. He doesn't overdo the characters in any way.
A great story, well read. Wonderful.
I love christie audiobooks, but have to say this one disappointed. To many clues were only available in the summation. So no chance for the reader to play sleuth effectively
I enjoyed the book and loved the introduction to Poirot
Reads the book superbly, can't fault his performance
A classic Agatha Christie novel beautifully narrated by Hugh Fraser. Although I do find Poirot rather insufferable (my problem, I know), the story is engaging and kept me guessing about all the "insignificant" clues. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to it whilst baking!
As with many Christie books, there are so many characters, it is hard to keep track of who is who and who has done what! At least with the TV/Film adaptations there is a face to the name.
This was the 2nd Christie book I had "read" and it may be sacrilege to say, but I found it a little dull and to be fair, if you had all the information on the ‘who-done-it’, it would be easy to detect the killer.
I was disappointed. I was determined to read or listen to all of her books this year as a personal challenge and I have given up after 6 - dare I say it??
Yes - I dare…. They are boring!
