Summary

Recently, there had been some strange goings on at Styles St Mary. Evelyn, constant companion to old Mrs Inglethorp, had stormed out of the house muttering something about "a lot of sharks". And with her, something indefinable had gone from the atmosphere. Her presence had spelt security; now the air seemed rife with suspicion and impending evil.

Fabulous audiobook

Hugh Fraser's excellent characterisation of Poirot's first outing is superb. A very enjoyable story from start to finish!

One of the best

Loved the story and the characters. Hugh Fraser is a fantastic reader as usual. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't guess the ending at all!

I never guessed it

Still amazing even today. The clues are there and you feel a fool when you realise you ignored them. Read superbly.

Good opener

This must be one of the few Agatha Christie books I'm not overly familiar with. Story was fine, introduced the reader/listener to Poirot and Hastings and how they knew each other. Did like it was narrated by the same actor who played Hastings; Hugh Fraser, that made it sound like a proper Poirot story.

Slow start, but worth the introduction!

Indeed it was possible to figure out most of the case from the evidence.

Very well twisted plot!

Exceptional

The story is so well told by Hugh Fraser, the actor who plays Hastings in the ITV Poirot show. The pace and rhythm of the storytelling is wonderful, so easy to keep up with what is transpiring.
This audible has kept me sane as I potter about the house - on to the next Poirot adventure!
