Publisher's Summary

COP KILLER STRIKES AGAIN!

The tabloid headlines are lurid but accurate. A killer is terrorising London but this time it is the police who are the targets. And Maeve Kerrigan and her boss Josh Derwent are clueless as to why. But it will only be a matter of time before the murderer selects his next victim...

    "Fantastic!"
What did you like most about The Kill?

Like the other three books in the series following DC Maeve Kerrigan, I love the way in which we get to know the character so well. There is a perfect balance of crime, investigation and the issues and struggles of Maeve and the supporting characters.

What other book might you compare The Kill to, and why?

The others in the series. By book four, many of the characters feel like friends and family. I recommend reading the books in order as there are threads running through them.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Lennon – was your favourite?

Caroline narrates all of the characters perfectly.

    Any additional comments?

I love this series of books. The characters are really well drawn and the crimes are interesting, with the occasional genuinely suprising twist. I must wait now until June for the next one to be published. I miss Maeve and Derwent already!

    "Complex Police Murders"

I felt the narrative by Caroline Lennon.was fabulous and really aids the story.

This is the fifth book in the DC Maeve Kerrigan and her boss DI Josh Derwent, with whom she enjoys a love/hate relationship. I thought the story was more complex than previous books. I found this really positive as it held my interest with the different murders and how and if they were linked.
It is so nice to catch up with the characters and how they have changed. This could be read as a standalone book but think that some of the understanding of the characters and events may be lost.
I think the relationship between Maeve and Josh has moved on and matured. Trust has come and I think he has softened a bit towards Maeve with her equally confiding more in him. They are ultimately working as a team with respect for each other.
Maeve remains a down to earth strong person with a sense of humour and a positive work ethic.

Rob is seen in a different light in a more ‘warts and all’ way. I didn’t particularly care for him much or feel any interest in his character or his actions. I feel he is there just as a love interest for Maeve with no other purpose. Maeve suddenly confiding in her mother is quite strange as in previous books she would run a mile from her.
There were excellent twists to this and I so did not guess where it was going when all was revealed.
I felt the Godley sub plot was somewhat unbelievable and unreal in the sense of the ultimate solution that was reached with Derwent’s input.
Finally I would highly recommend this novel and feel that the reintroduction of Kerrigans old nemesis may make interesting reading for the future.

    "Best yet!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the Jane Casey/Caroline Lennon combination is a sure bet.

Have you listened to any of Caroline Lennon’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Favourably, Caroline Lennon is always a good choice when purchasing audiobooks.

    Any additional comments?

Best of the Maeve Kerrigan series, probably because the feminist talk (preaching) is kept to a minimum, ie an acceptable level for a male reader/listener.

    "Maeve and Derwent strike again!"

Great story with lots of twists and turns! Another great murder investigation in the company of Kerrigan and (the ever obnoxious) Derwent. Really enjoying this series. Casey strikes a good balance between procedure and investigation, and the characters' personal lives. Casey's writing, her style and her plots are developing and maturing well as the series progresses. Lennon is an excellent narrator and has left me wanting to buy more books read by her. I would recommend this series, this author and this narrator.

Great read. Anyone who hasn't read the first 4 books should read them first.

    "Overkill spoils the story"

I have been following the adventures of Maeve since the start of the series but now the private life of Maeve is beginning to take over the narration to the point that the investigation is almost extanct and the murder mystery is flimsy and obvious with hardly any twists and turns which make detective fiction so interesting to read. Maeve is becoming far too big headed and her character too prickly to make her likeable and her constant criticism of her colleague Derwent is tiresome. I hope the next book will return to a good murder plot with an investigation of the various suspects.
