Publisher's Summary

In the villages and on the mountains of County Tyrone, in the heartland of the Provisional IRA's most active Brigade, the golden rule is 'Hear nothing, see nothing, know nothing'.

To collaborate with British Intelligence is to invite an inescapable death sentence. But there is word on the mountain that inside the Brigade there is a 'tout', an informer. He will be identified, interrogated, tortured, then hooded and shot.

Gary Brennard, the MI5 field agent, and Parker, who runs the informer, have to protect their man at all costs: he is the critical asset to hold on to until the stakes are high enough... and if the innocent step into the crossfire, that's just bad luck.

    "Realistic, bleak and enthralling"

I listened to this book at the recommendation of a friend of mine who served as an officer in the Parachute Regiment in the area and time in which the book is set. He described it as being a very realistic portrayal of what it was like in Northern Ireland in the early '90s.

Whilst I have no personal experience to draw upon, it certainly has the sense of a realistic portrayal. But this is fiction and is a gripping story. It is fast-paced whilst not giving in to the comic-strip action of pulp thrillers. Above all, the characters are almost all very credible, apart from perhaps a somewhat Lara Croft-style female character. You feel as though you have spent a night in a ditch watching the house of a "Charlie 1".

A very notable point is the narration. It would be very easy to slip into 'stand-up comic' Irish accents, but the narrator manages the story and the various characters very well, bringing some real poignancy to the story.

If you want a thoughtful, well-told, gripping story with satisfying sense of realism; this is it.

    "Marvellous"

My first time with this author. Took the book purely on the basis of the summary provided on the Audible site and I am glad I did. No holds barred storyline delves into the murky world of undercover anti terrorist work. Well worth a read.

    "Totally enthralling"

Massive road works outside the office have increased my commute to over an hour and even then it was too short! This audio book made every minute a joy. Fabulous performance enhanced a great story

    "Great story & excellent narration"
    Any additional comments?

I'm a fan of Gerald Seymour books - but again the narrator was superb, I love his voice and he really brings the book to life without being intrusive - if that makes sense!, I would but any audiobook that he narrated!!

Grim but compelling. None of the characters are particularly likeable but you fear for them. Well plotted.

What did you like most about The Journeyman Tailor?

A novel of the Northern Troubles of the 70's. An acquired taste perhaps but I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Gerald Seymour. The narrrator was excellent.
