Summary
Inside a Los Angeles church, on the altar steps, lies the blood-soaked, decapitated body of a priest. Carefully positioned, legs stretched out, arms crossed over the chest, the most horrifying thing of all is that the priest's head has been replaced by that of a dog. Later, the forensic team discover that on the victim's chest, the figure 3 has been scrawled in blood.
At first Detective Robert Hunter believes that this is a ritualistic killing. But as more bodies surface, he is forced to reassess. All the victims died in the way they feared the most. Their worst nightmares have literally come true. But how could the killer have known? And what links these apparently random victims?
Hunter finds himself on the trail of an elusive and sadistic killer, someone who apparently has the power to read his victims' minds. Someone who can sense what scares his victims the most. Someone who will stop at nothing to achieve his twisted aim.

Too gory for me
I was looking for another detective/murder series and found book 1, The Crucifix Killer, bloodthirsty. This book is even harder to get through. It might suit some, but I’m too squeamish.

Bloody Fantastic
The Crucifix Killer was one of my first buys on Audible and I thought it was a bit slow and it’s taken me ages to buy the follow up ...what a fool I’ve been! This book is excellent. Yes it’s dark and yes it’s gory but I’ve read/listened to worse.
The book is fast paced and with minimal padding so much so that my ears were glued to my buds and my housework left undone. The plot was believable with revenge definitely served cold!
Hunter and Garcia have both ‘grown’ since book 1 and I will be buying book 3 at the speed of light!
Well narrated by Mr Judd who gave each character their own voice.

Brill as usual
I love Chris Carter books both audio and reading self. His imagination is immense and Robert and Garcia characters are so authentic and keep you rooting for them to find the killer. I can't get enough of these books and read over and over. Looking forward to his brand new book too but in meantime off to read Crucifix Killer again.

Great .... apart from the animal torture scenes!
Another great but gruesome thriller from Chris Carter. It is paced perfectly and the killings are most definitely very inventive. There were twists and turns galore making me want to listen long past bedtime. But The Executioner lost a star from me because of the scenes of animal torture (yes I know it's irrational - you can kill as many people as horrifically as you like but leave the animals alone!!)
Excellent narration by Thomas Judd.

Loved it, another absolute cracker from Chris Carter, cleverly constructed, I can't wait to catch up with the rest of the series.

Not Bad.
The problem with these books is once you hear one, they all sound the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I have definitely heard worse, and there is a cheeky little twist towards the end...
But there really isn’t much Hunter doesn’t know which can become a bit irritating.
But it’s not a bad read.

Brilliant
If you were ever a bully, then don't read this book.
If you were ever bullied, then read this book. Justice is oh so sweet.
To be honest, I wanted the killer to finish his list...
Very disturbing story - fantastic
