Publisher's Summary

David Blake likes to think he's no gangster. He's a white-collar criminal, working for gangster Bobby Mahoney, enjoying the money pouring in. Trouble is, a big chunk of that money has just gone missing along with Geordie Cartwright. Has Geordie done a runner or been killed by a rival gang? In a bloody finale, Blake has to make an agonising choice and someone has to pay the ultimate price....

    Story
"A gripping graphic insight into the world of crime"

This book is a gripping tale that is enhanced totally by the narrater David Nellist. His wonderful Jordie accent kept us amused and that coupled with the author's humour at times had us laughing out loud. We were totally absorbed for our journey across France and had to park up to hear the end of the story we were so engrossed. A brilliant way to pass the time on boring roads. The story is simple but well thought through with an interesting twist that one does not expect. It is quite a strange thing to find yourself on the side of the baddies and not wanting them to get caught. A book I would recommend to anyone who can understand the Jordie humour and accent not a book for someone trying to learn English!!!

    "Gripping thriller - great characters"

The Drop kept me on tenterhooks - I went for long walks and drove the long way home to continue listening to the story. Gripping and a great performance. Well worth a listen

That the story was in Newcastle with the narrator doing very well, I thought, with the geordie accent.

    None in particular

Was The Drop worth the listening time?

    Yes it was

    "Could not Drop the Drop"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Drop to be better than the print version?

The audio version gave you so much more in bringing the story to life as the narrator's accent was first class.

What did you like best about this story?

As an exiled Geordie myself I knew all the locations mentioned, which for me gave the book added dimension.

What about David Nellist’s performance did you like?

Very down to earth no frills just fast paced good old excitement.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have listened to this in one go but forced myself to hear it over a couple of days.

    Any additional comments?

I look forward to Howard Linskey next book as this will be a definite purchase for my library.

    "Love this narrator"
If you could sum up The Drop in three words, what would they be?

    Newcastle Cracking characters

What did you like best about this story?

actually I loved the guy who read it. His accent was incredible and he never missed a beat

Which character – as performed by David Nellist – was your favorite?

I think he did a great job with the main character but i also really liked his women's voices and kinaiir. he was great as the Glasgow family

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

it made me laugh out loud at some of the phrases I recognize from my childhood and at those things he said about his girlfriend Laura. It was funny that her mothers ashes saved him.

    Any additional comments?

i have purchased the other two books and the other one you have with the same narrator. it was like listening to Jimmy Nail.
