Summary

Creating George Stark was easy. Getting rid of him won't be....

The sparrows are flying again. The idea - unbidden, inexplicable - haunts the edge of Thad Beaumont's mind. Thad should be happy. For years now it is his secret persona, George Stark, author of superviolent pulp thrillers, who has paid the family bills. But now Thad is writing seriously again under his own name, and his menacing pseudonym has been buried forever. And yet...the sparrows are flying again, and something is terribly wrong in Thad Beaumont's world.

great

This is a great book, I always wondered what sheriff bembourn was up to before the events in needfull things. Now I know. Loved Grover Gardner when he read the stand and was pleased he did this. Can't wait for a new token now.

The Sparrows Are Flying Again...

An author seems to have it all, a new set of twins, a happy marriage and a blossoming career... only when he was eleven he had his twin surgically removed from his brain as a mere group of cells containing an eye and fingers, nice.

The pen name he uses has had his day and a big PR stunt shows he's done for good, only now someone with the author's dna is bumping off people. What does this have to do with the pen name?

Couldn't get enough

I'll start off by saying Grover Gardner does a fantastic job as always. He's definitely up there with Frank Muller and Steven Weber for King narrators.

I do a lot of night shifts, and so the best way to kill time is by listening to Stephen King audiobooks. This means I get six hours per shift of pure audiobook time, however I started this one off just a few days before to see what it was like, and before I'd started my nights I was half way through. While I do feel this story is fairly cookie cutter, and doesn't have anywhere near as much character development as I have come to expect from King, it's still a great piece of fiction and will definitely return to it in the future.

Really enjoyed this book

Good story. Great narration. Really enjoyed this book. One of my favourite authors so always enjoy most of his books. Not up there with his classics but good nonetheless.

Fair-King Good

I liked this book. It's a great idea and written well but it (for me) lacks a little warmth. I think thats the word i mean. It hits all the right notes throughout but it didn't have me engaged with the characters like other King stories. Perhaps this was the narration. The narration was fair but i am not totally sure he was the best choice. Will Patton could have done a better job and he has a history with King's books. That aside i don't think it was a bad job and certainly he had good material to work with so don't be put off.
This is a good horror/supernatural story. Good as an introduction to King or anyone wanting a good book in that genre.

This is King in top form

I’m an unusual Stephen King fan in that I love his work (I’ve read about 40 or so titles) but I will always call him out if a book is bad (Lisey’s Story I’m looking at you).

But this book is Stephen King as the world originally fell in love with him. Great characters, great plot/story and this one gets pretty damn dark in places.

I loved this story and would recommend it to anyone. It was also helped by a great narrator which is hugely important to me.

Another Winner from King

Grover Gardner again makes Kings tales come to life. Not my favourite SK novel but still good enough to make me look forward to my daily listen.
