Like all of the books in this series, it evokes small town America, the weather, its pioneer history, and what it must be like to live in that sort of community. The main character is likeable and although I don't usually like books that are 'fanciful', which they are in regard to the cats, you can easily suspend disbelief as they are well written and very well read. I shall be very sorry when I have finished the series. Start at the beginning if you are new to them as characters appear and reappear.
Its a nice gentle easy listen.
He has a lovely voice and reads so well.
Its not really that kind of book.
Nice Escapism as I do housework.
"Another great cat book!!!"
I greatly enjoy this series of books. They are exceedingly well performed. Please be aware that these are very clean mysteries that don't have any real gore or explicit characters to them. They are wonderful books.
"A fun read"
I love to listen to the "Cat Who" books when I exercise! This was a fun one that kept my interest. Truthfully, I don't want a deep, serious book when I exercise - e.g. go out for 5 milk walks and the such - I want something entertaining and not too deep. This book - and the others fit the bill perfectly.
The story is much the same as the other books in the series: Jim Qwellan lives in a small town with two amazing cats who seem to understand when trouble is around. The descriptions of the small town of Pick Ax and its inhabitants is well done; the story itself is sort of silly but who cares.?
I had no extreme reaction to the book - but there were times I would giggle!
"Love Lilian Jackson Braun"
I think it is just fun. Interesting plots, great characters, and the comfort of knowing where you are.
"Typical "cat" book and enjoyable"
It flowed nicely and was enjoyable and interesting.
KoKo, who else!
He does well but a little monotone
Her books really don't draw on emotion.
"Crime for Christmas"
Wealth. Weather. Witnesses.
I liked the way the characters worked to overcome their past family troubles.
Mr. Guidell is a master character actor in his ability to fill the Cat Who books with likable people and places ...and cats. Mr. Guidell makes the books live.
Polly Duncan. She's very intelligent and care about people and books.
I like the books for the cats.
"A Different World"
The "Cat Who" world is special place. The main character is a man who inherited great wealth, but chose to use much of it to help his community. The population is small, but includes unlikely things like a well stocked department store, an active amateur theater group, a college, a state of the art library, and a number of colorful characters (including two Siamese cats with some unique abilities). As far as I know, such a place does not exist. If it did, I'd want to live there.
I've read this book, own an audio copy on CD, and now added it to my electronic library. From time to time I go back and listen to these stories again. I always enjoy my visits to Pick Axe.
The narration of George Guidall is perfect.
"Q does it again"
another great book to read or listen to. It contains all the hidden clues that we have learned to expect.
"love the the cat who books"
yes, because I sometimes need to read it twice, I do activity while listening to book
"Great narration, lovely story & cats!"
George Guidall is my favorite narrator & this author's books focus on mild topics that always leave me with a good feeling after I listen. Being a cat lover doesn't hurt either!
I actually love the way he transitions so easily to different characters - especially women & the cats!
"Fav Author & Narrator"
If you enjoy a good mystery you should enjoy this series. Humor as well as a good storyline.
