"Entertaining and funny"
It's easy to get caught up in the characters Frank Muller brings to life through his reading. How the author presents the story is entertaining and he dispays a fun sense of humor with his witty dialogue. If you are a film noir fan, the ending will be somewhat predictable. Recommended reading.
"Wonderful to hear Frank Muller"
I bought this on the holiday sale (Thank you, Audible) because I had enjoyed "Hit Man" by Lawrence Block many years ago, but mostly because Frank Muller (Rest in Peace, 2008) was narrating. Though I have current favorite narrators, no one tops Frank Muller. What a treat to hear him.
This was a witty romp which reminded me of Garrison Keillor's "Guy Noir" sketches.
The Bogart aspect of this book starts out cute and then falls apart as the reader gets summary after summary of Bogart movies. The "mystery" is not very interesting--no suspense.
"Bernie the Burglar"
I love this series, and this book in particular is my favorite. I believe this is the only book in this series read by Frank Muller. He does a wonderful job with different voices and accents of the characters. Mr. Block, please write more.
"Fantastic writing and narration!"
Fantastic writing and narration! Lawrence Block and Frank Muller. Perfect mix of suspense and humor.
"A DELIGHTFUL STORY"
In the top 30%. The story was convoluted, but Frank Muller made it delightful.
Any other Lawrence Block Bernie Rhodenbar books.
I've listened to many of Frank Muller's performances. All were/are great.
Bernie Loves Bogie
My wife actually recommended this book to me. I said I was looking for something light, funny, but smart enough to keep me entertained. This fit the bill perfectly.
I have not read any others in this series but, I certainly plan too. The characters are enjoyable and smart. The writing is well paced. And the reader was good as well.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that just wants a good story and a good book. Especially if they are a Bogy fan.
"An entertaining listen"
These days I find myself a bit tired of vampires and gritty crime drama. The Burglar Who Thought He Was Bogart was a much needed departure from those genres - a fun, easy listen. The story was fun, but it was really the narrator who made it come to life for me, with his droll, urban voice. Highly recommended.
"not so great..."
Perhaps a diehard Bogart fan would enjoy this. I mostly tolerated it. It left me about a half step away from complete boredom!
This was a great treadmill book. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the series. I'd read some of Lawrence Block's other books a few years ago. In tone, these are quite different.
Thanks to the 9.95 book sale or I never would have found this light hearted romp.
