Intimate in scale, but grandly outfitted, the luxury cruise liner 'The Afrikaans' hosts no more than 208 pampered guests, among them; former FBI contract agent Thomas Prescott. When the ship is overtaken by African pirates who are demanding the U.S. send AIDS relief to a small Zulu village in South Africa, it is up to Prescott to keep the 400 hostages alive. As the U.S. tries to figure out how to combat the terrorists' plot from the outside, World Health Organization doctor, Gina Brady, undertakes the impossible task of rescuing three children from the secluded village. As the deadline draws near, Prescott and Brady must race against the clock to discover the truth; is it AIDS relief the pirates seek or a two billion dollar ransom from one of the richest men in the world. Or could the implications be so profound, and the stakes so high, a war hangs in the balance. Taut, riveting, with a plot snatched from the headlines of tomorrow, The Afrikaans will leave you begging for more.

"Great story telling and character building!"
I really enjoyed this book of Pirog's. The characters were great and the story moved at a decent pace. I can't wait for the one of the series to come out...when ever that will be!
"Another great Thomas Prescott story"
Did this one as an audio book, narrator did a great job. Another great Thomas Prescott story. I found the story to be take a different path from the other 2 books, not as much detective / mystery theme. This was more an action / mystery. Still with the great twists. Loved it.
"Intense and exhilarating!"
Wow!! I just got done with this book and I was overwhelmed! Great story line, well thought out characters and some twists and turns that really made it a fun listen. Definitely looking forward to his next book!
PS... Loved the accents of the character!
"Very entertaining! love the characters & twists!"
Captivating, hilarious, suspenseful.
Thomas Prescott was definitely my favorite character, the dry humor and sarcasm is awesome and keeps it really entertaining. I was also surprised by his character as the story progressed. The tone of the character was perfect for the personality.
All of the accents were great but Baruti was my favorite voice, really feels like it's another person reading and really makes you feel like it's a seriously intimidating Somalian warlord pirate guy, he nailed it.
The ending was really well done and moving but the main twist towards the end is the one that was really shocking, the last few hours of it over all were all really suspenseful and engaging. loved it. really fun to listen to.
The characters voices were awesome and there were so many it kept the whole book really fun and captivating to listen to, highly recommend it!
"Great story and great storytelling!"
Yes, this is a great story and narration for the car for long commutes or trips.
Great fast paced story with lots of funny characters brought to life by James Barak.
I love how James Barak gives every character a distinct voice. He keeps the book interesting.
This book was given to me by a friend. I don't usually have time to read but this is great for listening in the car since I commute so many hours a week. I'll definitely be getting more books by Nick Pirog and I'll look for more stories narrated by James Barak.
