Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

March 1997. A woman has her throat cut behind a bar in Mississippi.

Just down the road is a big army base. Is the murderer a local guy - or is he a soldier?

Jack Reacher, still a major in the military police, is sent in undercover.

The county sheriff is a former U.S. Marine - and a stunningly beautiful woman. Her investigation is going nowhere. Is the Pentagon stonewalling her? Or is she trying not to find the killer?

Set just six months before the opening of Killing Floor, The Affair marks a turning point in Reacher's career.

If he does what the army wants, will he be able to live with himself? And if he doesn't, will the army be able to live with him?

_________

Although the Jack Reacher novels can be listened to in any order, The Affair is 16th in the series.

Great story, keeps you guessing.

Reacher doing what he does best, ignoring dipsh*ts and kicking ass.
I was hooked from the first chapter. Very well read by Jeff Harding, he's an authentic reacher, unlike some A lister who will go unnamed.
Give it a listen and while you're at it check out every other Lee child book. They are superb.

A brilliant introduction to Jack Reacher

This was my first "Reacher" book. I could not believe the detail and the sheer brilliance of the descriptive narrative. You could really feel the oppressive southern heat and you just don't mind the heat because the story just keeps getting better.

The details are so vivid and acutely "American" is is hard to believe the author is a Brit!

Gripping

Really enjoyed this story. Had a couple of twists that I didn't quite expect and as my first Jack Reacher novel, I really enjoyed it and am now trying to pick which one to order next!

It made me find time to listen. Captivating.

This was my first Jack Reacher and I felt the plot had a good pace and was well thought out. I found the sex scenes amusingly 'missionary' or maybe that is only the dumbed down version that we were given. Perhaps 'the second time' is best for Reacher as he has run out of imagination? Usually it is sufficient for me to know that the characters have/are being intimate but the way the 'act' was presented in this story fitted the literary device very well! It was amusing the way the two halves of the book cut in at 'that' moment. The violence was gratuitous and I do not like people acting as judge and jury. I will try a few more of these books but suspect that I will not get on with the format if this is what the others are like.

In the Jack Reacher saga read this book first.

This book (the Affair) should be BOOK ONE not book sixteen. This is what happens when one follows the publication order.

Excellent Jack Reacher at his best

Narrator superb; the best for me. Great story and very good to understand how Reacher came about leaving the Army.
