From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jana DeLeon, the third book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series.
When only a crack shot will do....
In the two weeks CIA assassin Fortune Redding has been hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, she's been harassed, poisoned, and shot at...and that was the easy part. But now she's about to face her biggest challenge since setting foot in the tiny bayou town.
When mayoral candidate Ted Williams is murdered, everyone is surprised. Ted was a blowhole and a Yankee, but those usually weren't good reasons to kill someone. When Sinful Ladies Society leader Ida Belle becomes the lead suspect in the crime, Fortune knows she's got to solve a murder and save one of the only friends she's ever had. But as the investigation begins, more and more secrets surface, and Fortune realizes that sometimes nothing is as it seems.

"A fun book to listen to."
Jana DeLeon is a new author for me and for that matter so is the narrator Cassandra Campbell. I seemed to have dove into this series in book three. The protagonist, Fortune Redding, is a CIA assassin with a price on her head. The agency has her stashed in Sinful, Louisiana as a vacationing librarian from New England. Fortune becomes friends with two elderly ladies, Ida Bell and Gertie, who are military veterans and former CIA operatives in Viet Nam. Ida Bell is running for Mayor. Her opponent Ted Williams is murdered and Ida Bell is a suspect. Fortune and the Sinful ladies are out to solve the crime. As the investigation begins they discover that nothing is as it seems.
DeLeon is a good story teller and does an excellent job weaving humor around the suspense. I believe the story is more a comedy than a serious action suspense novel. For being a highly trained assassin, Fortune gets into more funny and stupid situations. DeLeon provides some good descriptions of the Bayous. I read that DeLeon grew up in the Bayous in Carlyss, Louisiana. Cassandra Campbell does a good job narrating the story.
This one is so far my favorite in the series. The characters are developing and you can rely on the quirky, funny, light mystery that keeps you entertained without causing nightmares.
"Another fun book although..."
Gertie and Ida Belle continue to delight. I'm beginning to wonder about Fortune though.
Fortune, as she's settling into the town, seems to be losing her edge (and it's only been a few days!), which takes away from the 'fish out of water' aspect of the story. Don't get me wrong, she's still great but I at parts of the book, I was wondering how she's managed to survive so long as an assassin.
Same great performance as in the previous books.
It would depend on who they cast as Ida Belle and Gertie.
"More Fun in the Swamp"
Amateur detective Fortune and her senior citizen sidekicks Ida Belle and Gertie help solve another mystery in the swamp. Lots of humor and eccentric characters, never a dull moment in Sinful Louisiana. Imagine Golden Girls meets Mission Impossible, with a touch of I Love Lucy slapstick comedy.
"NOT MY KIND OF BOOK"
Just not right for me. Seems like it was written for a very young reader/listener
I didn't finish listening to it and moved on.
"Just a good funny story."
Not a deep intellectual story , but funny and entertaining. Liked the last book better than this one, but I still enjoyed it.
"Loving this series!"
This is one of those books that I can go to when I'm in need of light entertainment. All the books in the series so far are fairly well-written in that there are plot twists that you don't see coming. You might anticipate the mishaps that befall our sleuths, but there's always a surprise or two to keep life interesting. Also, I'm liking the developing relationship between Fortune and Carter.
laugh out loud hilarious!! wonderful narration. The ladies of Sinful Louisiana are really growing on me!
"A fun read"
Laugh out loud funny. This was book three in the Miss Fortune Series. Books one and two were good also. Now on to book four.
Jana can put a surprise twist in a story while you are stilling chuckling over some antic that Fortune has been involved in.
