Summary

An abusive mother

Raised in the suburb of Riverside, California, 20-year-old college student Jason Bautista endured for years his emotionally disturbed mother's verbal and psychological abuse. She even locked him out of the house, tied him up with electrical cord, and on one occasion, gave him a beating that sent him to the emergency room.

A son's revenge

On the night of January 14, 2003, Jason strangled his mother. To keep authorities from identifying her body, he chopped off her head and hands, an idea he claimed he got from watching an episode of the hit TV series The Sopranos. Jason's 15-year-old half-brother, Matthew, would later testify in court that he sat in another room in the house with the TV volume turned up while Jason murdered their mother.

A crime that would bond two brothers

The morning following the murder, Matthew went to school, and Jason returned to his classes at Cal State San Bernardino. When authorities zeroed in on them, Jason lied and said that his mother had run off with a boyfriend she'd met on the Internet. But when police confronted the boys with overwhelming evidence, Jason confessed all. Now the nightmare was only just beginning for him.

Sad story

Those poor boys. Yes killing his mother was a truly awful thing but Jason had a terrible childhood at the hands of his mentally ill mother. Regularly beaten and humiliated, he nevertheless took brilliant care of his younger brother in the mother's absence, mentally and physically when she decided to stay out all night. Her family should have got Social Services involved and got Jane the help she so clearly needed, which would have spared those boys the suffering they went through, particularly Jason. It's no wonder he lost it in the end and killed her, not that I'm condoning that, but I do feel his childhood wasn't properly taken into account during the trial.

Thought Provoking

There but for the Grace of God this book provides a fictional insight of a behind closed doors situation on how our mental attitudes and opinions can effect the lives of all others particularly those close to us.
I enjoyed the book.

Sad but interesting tale

I am a crime enthusiast and loved this book. A mentally ill mother and two boys left to suffer her madness. Great story but a sad one.

Jane

This is one effed up story. You don’t know who to feel sorry for the sons or mother. It was very obvious she had mental health issues. Would recommend

Gripping and incredibly sad

So unbelievably sad, so obvious both boys suffered because of their mothers mental illness, yet no body addressed the boys mental illness as a result of their mother

Gripping story

I enjoyed this audio book very much. The audio voice was easy to listen to. And I always prefer a true story as opposed to fiction.
