Summary
Unflappable flapper and Town & Country scribe Daisy Dalrymple searches for a killer whose vicious pen matches a murderous heart in this delightful installment of Dunn's cozy mystery series.
In the 1920s, in post - World War I England, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple, newly engaged to Detective Inspector Alec Fletcher, is asked by her brother-in-law to discreetly investigate a series of poisoned pen letters that many of the local villagers have been receiving. When the pompous and unbearable brother of the local vicar is killed by a very large rock, dropped on his head from a great height, it seems clear to all that this campaign of gossip has escalated to murder. With the help of her husband, who'd rather she not get involved, Daisy tries to uncover who wrote the letters and who that person has driven to murder before the killer strikes again.

Story ok
Story fine apart from odd word misused- unconsciously instead of subconsciously. Reader overall ok but lots of words mispronounced.

Nice little murder mystery
An enjoyable audiobook the narrator does better on this one there are no place-names to mispronounce, but still the irritating pronunciation enquiry

Good Story and More Narration Fun!
In this episode of the DD mysteries, narrator Mia treats us to a few old mispronunciations and some nice new ones.
The querrelling (quarreling) from Book 6 continues but it is a less fractious plot so there are fewer querrels. What we do get is a nice reprise of Glors-ow-sester, and a new favourite of mine - Door-iss (Doris, a maid).
Perfect.
Looking ahead, I see a change of narrator is coming up. 3 books ago, I would have cheered but for me, now, DD and her cast of friends and murderers, will always sound like Mia's inventive interpretation so I feel a bit sad.
Good plot, this one. An old fashioned poison pen story, featuring the WI, the Post Mistress, the Vicar, the GP et al.

The real murder is committed by the narrator on English pronunciation
The story itself was ok but the ridiculously bad narration was really distracting. Why employ an American with no grasp of proper English pronunciation to play the part of a very RP flapper? I’m sorry I ever started this series as I have to complete it, knowing that awful Dick van Dyke style murdering of the language awaits. Perhaps Daisy Dalrymple should investigate the serial murders of English pronunciation by this third rate narrator.

the horrible narration
I loved the storyline but looking forward to hearing a narrator who is capable of pronouncing words correctly for a 1920/30's English story.

Poor narrator
I’m sorry to say that although I love these stories, they would be much better read by an English reader. The mispronunciations are a jolt to the ear.

Styx and Stones
This is a slight step back from the normal plots, in that it is totally a Miss Dalrymple mystery with the directive playing second fiddle. With lots of village gossip along the way, Daisy dose it. Cracking good read/listen to Mia Chiaromonte as she takes you along the way.

Another good story marred by narration
I'm very glad this is the last book read by Mia Chariamonte. she'll be great at reading kids books, but her accents and pronunciation in a British murder mystery is abysmal. I look forward to a new narrator!
