Can Lord Peter Wimsey prove that Harriet Vane is not guilty of murder--or find the real poisoner in time to save her from the gallows?
Impossible, it seems. The Crown's case is watertight. The police are adamant that the right person is on trial. The judge's summing up is also clear. Harriet Vane is guilty of killing her lover. And Harriet Vane shall hang.
But the jury disagrees.

I can't remember why I purchased this book...perhaps buy one get one free, but I started listening to it the other day.
Now whilst I understand, this book is set in a time when language was completely different to that that is used today, this book, given there is a lot of non essential chatter in, has begun to grate. So much so that I cannot waste any more time listening to it.
I'm now into chapter 12 of 24 and have decided to return it for a refund.
It was sooooooooo incredibly slow! 12 chapters in and I'm not engaged with any of the characters at all which is a shame.
I think she gave it a good shot, but this book would defy even Sean Barrett to bringing it to life!
Not really. I shan't be buying another book by this author.
All I can say is thank goodness for Audible's great listening guarantee!
Book lover, gardener, knitter, cake maker and country bumpkin.
Good story, slightly spoilt at times by strange pronunciation of words and very odd phrasing of sentences.
Introducing Harriet Vane, this is a classic mystery. Romance, espionage, spiritualism & spinsters all play a part in one of the most challenging cases of Lord Peter's career.
