Summary
In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of 'rehabilitation' - the complete psychic erasure of her personality....
Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murder of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation....

Ok
After listening to Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series and having it become one of my all time favourite series, I had high expectations for this series. But sadly this book just didn’t do it for me. There was hardly any world building and and I found the story rushed. The main couple fell in love and I just couldn’t see how. They talked a few times, had a few meetings and bam, they were mates. I swear, if I’d had to listen to him call her “kitten” or “darling” one more time I’d of screamed. Which brings me round to the narrator. Her speaking voice was actually quite nice, but her character voices were dreadful. I could hardly tell the heroines from the hero’s. Not to mention the fact that she sounded like an obscene phone call every time she narrated the character speech. I’ve already downloaded this whole series after loving the Guild Hunter one so I have to continue listening to them, but if I hadn’t of done so I wouldn’t of continued with it.

Loved it
This is such a smart story, really enjoyed it, only thing I'd have liked to be different or rather more of was the how the pack sought to get vengeance and protect Sasha, it would have been so much better if we actually saw that part of the story unfold rather than it being a summary after the fact. Still really liked this story though

This is Nalini Singh after all.
The narrator took some getting use too, however … ( that’s why performance get a “ok” 4 stars) with that being said…the darn story is fabulous. This whole darn series is mesmerising. One of the greatest Romance/Paranormal/Action/Drama’s and so Erotic series out here.
The series was an absolute a dreamworld of possibilities… it’s a fantasy so unique, & astoundingly unique, as the new species called “Psy ” race. Which in my humble opinion makes this series not your usual (run of the mill) I dare say. Nalini in her genius, created a fun, fresh and dope new world that’s a stand alone and can’t ever be compared to others in this genre.
After reading the whole series, it still manages to “woowww” the heck out me even on audible. (Smiling)
Enjoy.

Can't get enough of this book & it's a brilliant introduction to the world of the Psy-Changelings series. The whole series has everything, romance, laughs, politics, war, fantasy.

This world is indescribable
It has been a whole minute since I read this book. 2014 to be exact although I first read it in 2013. But still it's been a minute. And damn do I miss books like this. The character development, the plot progression. That feeling of wonder when reading a book that's so different and yet everything you want in a book. It's better than the first time. Honestly I think as I've grown and my preferences have become more honed, I appreciate more in books I read back years ago that I liked but didn't take in as well as I do now.
So my thoughts.
Ahh. Lucas is EVERYTHING. THE PERFECT BOOK HUSBAND.
As a character he's just so well rounded. As a man perfectly flawed. As an alpha he had the right intentions for his pack despite the connection he had to Sascha. He embodies strength and integrity but he also had this playful teasing side to his personality that quick frankly had me melting into a puddle of swoon. I just loved him.
Sascha is such an interesting character. She has this cult like mentality which given her circumstances is understandable and fitting. But she curious, she's broken and she's more than a little unsettled. Her journey intrigued me so much more this read around because I found myself hurting for her. For the life she lived and the pain she had to conceal to protect herself. Also the strangle hold that kind of upbringing had on her mentally and what it took to break through that way of living. I couldn't help but love her cold front and secret little sweet moments. She for sure has so much growth in this journey.
I loved them together. It's legit fire meets ice and even when it shouldn't of worked, it just did. I loved that Lucas slowly chipped away at her exterior allowing her to learn and explore slowly. I appreciate how Nalini didn't rush the development of their relationship but instead slowly built the tension allowing the chemistry to burn between the characters until they were positively combustible. Everything about them just felt right together and I could feel that connection through the pages.
This world is so well developed and written honestly it's hard to put into worlds just how good it is. Everything from the detailing of this world to the character development and plot execution is utter perfection and that's not including the world building here because whilst this book is focused on Lucas and Sascha. The journey doesn't end here and it only gets better with each book and every character.
