Publisher's Summary

Not much could drag Jim Booker out of a peaceful, if lonely, retirement and back to late nights, crime scenes, and chases. Jim Booker is done with detective work and would just like to enjoy a cup of coffee on a sunny day. But when an old friend shows up with a case about an old flame, Booker can't say no.

What starts as a missing persons case soon delivers more than he bargained for, and when Booker's own past offers clues, it's clear that no one else can solve this mystery. But there's a catch: Booker was given six months to live eight months ago.

J.R. Rain shows us that when it seems there's nothing left to live for, there's also nothing left to lose. His characters will take a chance on danger, doubt, even an unlikely romance - as long as they get a cup of coffee first.

    "I love J.R RAINS. books."

I can't get enough of his books. I like the happy ones better than the sad but that is life. He has a wonderful sense of humor. My favorites are Samantha and Jim knighthorse. thank you for the hours of great entertainment. Keep up the excellent work.

    Story
    "okay-ish"

story was okay,. The story seemed to want to have a more complex plot than it did. This narrator is tolerable, but not my favorite. ~JTC~

    Story
    "The most depressing story ever"

This story has the be the saddest most depressing story ever.
As a fan of mysteries I am used to the books being focused on the crime. instead the author choose this to be an amazing story off being human, that just do happened to have a murder mystery in it.
If you are looking to read a gay mystery thriller this book is not for you. If however you are wanting a story that reminds you of the human condition and dealing with it read/listen to this book tonight.

    Story
"A different spin on the serial killer genre"
What did you love best about Silent Echo?

The narration was fantastic. The book got a little repetitive about the protagonist's health condition, but Phil Gigante made it sound important and urgent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silent Echo?

    No spoilers!

    Which scene was your favorite?

    No spoilers!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The very end!

    Any additional comments?

The book has a lot of the usual serial killer tropes, such as the killer explaining exactly why and how he/she did what they did and another common twist that will go unmentioned. All in all it was a well narrated and interesting spin on the serial killer genre.

    Story
"Even Phil Gigante couldn't help this one"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If this story was written in the 80's or 90's, the HIV portion of the plot would have possibly been more believable.

What was most disappointing about J. R. Rain’s story?

All that victimhood neutralized the character development, which in my opinion is an essential part of a good mystery.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

His characters are always well done. Phil Gigante did a good job with the narration, but there wasn't enough for him to work with.

What character would you cut from Silent Echo?

    Jim Booker,
