Summary

Fifteen years ago, a teenage girl was assaulted and raped as she picked flowers for a Midsummer's Eve ritual. Cut to the present, and a man is killed in a hit-and-run. He has no identification on him; he is not reported missing or wanted by the police. At the same time, a priest and his wife are found dead in an apparent suicide.

Fredrika Bergman, along with Alex Recht's federal investigation unit, is assigned to the seemingly unconnected cases. The investigations lead to a clandestine people-smuggling network: a new player on the international human smuggling market operating out of Bangkok.

As the police slowly uncover the shocking hypocrisy behind the network, they begin to find a trail that runs all the way back to the 1980s, to a crime that went unreported but whose consequences will reach further and deeper than anyone ever expected.

Such an annoying narrator

Excellent plot ruined by the narrator. What a waste. Should work on the narrator need a less aggressive voice

Another great Recht story

Another in the Alex Recht series, good story, intricate and well thought out. A good listen!

Too difficult to follow

The plot was too difficult to follow. I struggled to have it finished hoping things would improve. They did not. I am glad it is over.

Excellent

I have not read nor listened to any other books by this author before, but I shall be looking out for more. I usually go for murder mysteries, or police procedural novels and thought I would try something different for a change. I have binge listened to this. I could not wait to find out what happens next and was not disappointed. As soon as I finish this review, I shall be shopping for my next listen.

Leaves you wanting more!

Where does Silenced rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favourite Kristina Ohlsson books, with Maggie Mash as the narrator! Nothing more ideal than that!

What other book might you compare Silenced to, and why?

I would compare it to books written by Tess Gerristen

What about Maggie Mash’s performance did you like?

Sometimes you sample a book and the person reading is just not for you. Maggie is perfect for me, I love her clarity and enthusiasm as well as character voices.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was often surprised at outcomes as well as following the emotions of the characters.

Any additional comments?

A follow on from the first book 'Unwanted'- What a good book! I loved every moment. Kristina keeps the suspense going right up until the last moment, not only do you want to know what happens next in the story but also what happens next with the characters. Page turner!

Slow Start

Silenced was a bit of a slow burner but eventually tripped along,_the plot was interesting as were some of the accents Miss Mash slipped into. overall not a bad time passer.
