Summary
London is under attack.
People are dead. Many more lives hang in the balance as a group of highly trained gunmen storm the historic Lanchester Hotel on Park Lane.
The gunmen have given the government just five hours to meet their demands before they blow up the building. Shots ring out. Some guests panic. Others text their loved ones. Still more try to escape. All are united by one thing: fear for their lives. All - except one man who has information so dangerous that it must be kept safe - at any price.
Darkness falls. The gunmen become increasingly violent. One question is in everybody's minds. Will they survive the night?

Up all night
The disparate motivation and aims of the group that take over the hotel ( The Stanhope not The Lanchester for some reason) are a bit vague, but the shocking body count certainly isn't and Simon Kernick has done a tremendous job here. Having the action take place in real time over the course of one day works well and the pressure is piled on with unexpected twists and turns.
I went to bed at 11 one night intending to listen to just a little bit more and was still wide awake when the book finished four hours later.

Cracking Listen.
Really enjoyed this book. Made the drive to and from work a pleasure. Even found myself driving slower so I could listen to more. Highly recommended.

Thriller to the end
Great book well read long but really worth the effort to listen to it. I got to the stage when I just could not stop listening. This would be a wonderful book for a long and boring flight or train journey. The plot is well constructed and moves along at a good pace - the characters are beautifully crafted. The twist at the end is good. Happy listening.

What a Gripping Tale
Very much enjoy Kernick's writing. and I'm also a huge fan of Thornley's narration. Together they deliver one of the most exciting audio books I have ever listened too. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Solid thriller
With twists and turns enjoyable despite the subject matter which is unfortunately relevant to today's society still

full of energy and intrigue
Paul Thornley reads Simon Kerinck's book, Siege with pace that adds to the intriguing story of a hotel held by armed raiders.
The characters are developed quickly and efficiently and hold the interest of the listener.
I will be reading more by this author and looking out for books narrated by Paul Thornley.

Simon Kernick at top speed
Typical offering from Simon K, fast paced, rambling and complicated. The plot doesn’t have the clarity of most of his work and it ends leaving the reader with questions that would have created a more complete and satisfying story. Great yarn but not his best.
