Summary
When two girls are abducted and killed in Missouri, journalist Camille Preaker is sent back to her home town to report on the crimes. Long haunted by a childhood tragedy and estranged from her mother for years, Camille suddenly finds herself installed once again in her family's mansion, reacquainting herself with her distant mother and the half sister she barely knows - a precocious 13-year-old who holds a disquieting grip on the town.
As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

Sinister and exciting
I loved this, as good as Gone Girl, and with tighter writing. However the narrator is quite irritating, not Amy! Once I got over this I really enjoyed it but might have been better to read than listen

Not Flynn's Best work
but listenable. Quite dragging in the middle. The ending is predictable. But undoubtedly, Flynn is still one of the best thriller writer out there.

So disappointed!
What would have made Sharp Objects better?
I feel a bit let down after listening to this book. It took me ages to get in to the story then it felt like the ending was really rushed.
I didn't like the main character and I didn't think the self harm element of the book was necessary.
Would you ever listen to anything by Gillian Flynn again?
I have listened to several Gillian Flynn books however nothing lives up to gone girl. I may not return to Gillian Flynn after this book.
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Liza Ross?
Anyone would have been better!! I hated this narrator. She made the main character sound as though she was in her 60's rather than her 30's It made it really hard to picture and connect to the main character.

Dark and Disturbing
I really liked Gillian Flynn's previous books and as a result was looking forward to this. I found it an odd experience - i was still hooked by the story and wanted to continue. However in parts i found it so horribly brutal that i had to stop listening. This was really dark and disturbing and yet i still wanted to reach the end - which says a lot for the author's characterisation and story telling. Just be prepared is all i'd say!

Amazing
I loved every minute of this book, it kept me guessing right until the end. I listened to this after gone girl , which I thought was brilliant, and this book is even better. I love the way the listener gradually finds out the darker side of the narrator as the story moves along with a wonderful dark sense of humour.

A bit of a let down
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the book more as I got further into it but if I had not read one of her books previously I think I might have given up. Not any where as good as Gone Girl but I suppose for an earlier work it was ok. It has the usual twists and turns you expect from the author but they are more obvious than in later works.
Would you recommend Sharp Objects to your friends? Why or why not?
I would suggest that anyone reading this hangs in there as it does improve as it goes along.

Better than dark places
It was good and a great twist at the end - well read - definitely worth a read but not as good as gone girl!

A dark thriller
Where does Sharp Objects rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Not the best but definitely not the worst.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The fact that all the important characters are women, and they are all complex and dark characters, which you don't see that often.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
It's difficult to pick just one scene, there are several well written and suspenseful scenes.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could have done that, there certainly weren't many boring moments in the story.
Any additional comments?
The story is quite dark and somewhat disturbing, but I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Flynn's other works.
