Summary
Perfect strangers. A perfect holiday. The perfect murder....
Three couples meet around the pool on their Florida holiday and become fast friends. But on their last night, their perfect holiday takes a tragic twist: the teenage daughter of another holidaymaker goes missing, and her body is later found floating in the mangroves. When the shocked couples return home, they remain in contact, and over the course of three increasingly fraught dinner parties, they come to know one another better. But they don't always like what they find: buried beneath these apparently normal exteriors are some dark secrets, hidden kinks, ugly vices.... Then, a second girl goes missing. Could it be that one of these six has a secret far darker than anybody can imagine?
A brilliantly plotted, utterly gripping thriller about the danger of making friends on holiday, Rush of Blood is Mark Billingham's most ambitious and accomplished work to date. Specially adapted for audio by the author.

My listen of the month
I listened to this over a couple of days on holiday and it had myself and my husband absolutely gripped. A departure from Billingham's Thorne series and probably even better. Toby Longworth narrates this brilliantly and for me this was a perfect audiobook . As I cannot read due to illness at the moment I feel very frustrated at not being able to read my favourite crime novels, listening to them is somehow not the same. However, the narration and structure of this book is audio perfect there are no wasted words or scenes which can
sometimes be a problem on audio books. The characterisation is brilliant and the dinner party scenes perfectly done; funny and excruciating. A fantastic holiday listen

Kept me listening
It took me a little while to catch onto the fact that the story swung back and forth from before and after the disappearance of a young girl and the involvement of three British couples on holiday in Florida. Thereafter I was engrossed by the development of the plot and the way the investigation progressed. The various characters are well-drawn and I was eager to find out what had happened. The narrator is good and kept me listening.

Loved it!
What did you like best about this story?
I know Florida well, so I enjoyed that it was set there and in the UK. The best aspect of it for me was probably the prominance of the relationships of those who met on holiday. It was different to the usual context for a crime drama. It was beautifully written and clever.

Disappointing
The pace is slow and the ending predictable. Unless you enjoy spying on your neighbours and listening to their back-stabbing comments regarding their new-found "holiday" friends, this is not the book for you. It certainly wasn't for me.

whispering
I have trouble hearing the dialogue when the narrator whispers because the character is whispering. The book is spoiled because I cannot hear the narration. Please stop the whispering in audio books

A chilling suburban story of murder which is as monotonous as it’s characters
I like Mark Bellingham’s work, but thought this an aberration
There wasn’t a single character which I could relate too or cared about
Rush of Blood and Sleepy Head ( the first book I read) are about as far apart as Florida and Lewisham

Not his best
A very slow wire boring stuff. Didn’t really start until half way through. I am a MB fan and have enjoyed all the previous books of his but not this one. The ending was fairly obvious with a quarter of the book to read. But it will not put me off future reads.

ugly truth
i did struggle to read this.
Sympathetic; characters non existent. All seemed to have the authors scorn.
