Publisher's Summary

149 B.C.- Escaping just ahead of the invading Roman legions, a Carthaginian soldier carries an ancient secret to places unknown.

1925- Percy Fawcett launches his final expedition into the Amazon, but what is his true objective?

Dane Maddock is back. Deep in the Amazon, a university group encounters a horror beyond their darkest nightmares and vanishes without a trace. Called upon to undertake a daring rescue mission, Dane and Bones must trace the true path of Percy Fawcett's final expedition, but the secret that lies at the end of the search might be even deadlier than the enemies who seek it. From the streets of London, to remote islands in the Atlantic, to the deadly jungles of the Amazon, Dane and Bones must penetrate a secret lost to history, on their deadliest Quest.

What the Critics Say

"Dane and Bones are back! Packed solid with action and witty dialogue, this rousing adventure takes a fresh look at one of the most enduring mysteries of the 20th century, David Wood delivers again with QUEST." (Sean Ellis, author of Into the Black and Dark Trinity Ascendant)

"The escapades of Wood's serial character Dane Maddock continue in high style with QUEST, an all-out blitzkrieg of a globe-trotting mystery-adventure that breaks from the action just long enough for a couple of laughs." (Rick Chesler, author of kiDNApped and Wired Kingdom)

"Let there be no confusion: David Wood is the next Clive Cussler. From the accessible writing to the wide-ranging plot to the main characters who don't give up no matter how long the odds, Wood's latest book, Quest, is a tremendous classic adventure. Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop until the last mystery plays out in the final line." (Edward G. Talbot, author of 2010: The Fifth World)

If you could sum up Quest: A Dane Maddock Adventure in three words, what would they be?

    Adventure
    Cool!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Quest: A Dane Maddock Adventure?

I loved this book from start to finish. It's my first Dane Maddock adventure and obviously it's not book one but you don't need to read the rest to enjoy it. It was brilliant. In fact I'm going to have to get the rest I enjoyed it so much.
If I get into memorable moments I will ruin the story, so to be deliberately vague. I liked it when they got to the place they were looking for and got the revelations around their destination.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I loved the way they started the book which is sort of a two pronged start of ancient tim s then back to modern day. Equally the way they end on finding their destination is brilliant as is the journey to get there.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It's more action than drama but I did like it when they were piecing the clues together and Bones proposes. Laugh out loud moment that was very, very funny. Also the scene with the explorers descendent was a nice scene. We have a great story and a brilliant selection of characters. It's a really great book.

    Story
    "Indiana Jones Type of Adventure"

This was a really good book with everything that we all loved from the Indiana Jones adventures. History, action, adventure, and mystery all rolled up into one book.
I read this without having read the first two Dane Maddock books, but I didn't feel lost at any point. There are a few references to the first two books, including the relationship between the two main characters, but the story was able to stand alone without needing the detailed descriptions of previous events.

Dane is called to assist an old friend when her significant other goes missing. Not only did he disappear under mysterious circumstances, but he left behind clues that may solve a centuries old mystery involving a lost city and a powerful artifact. However, powerful people will stop at nothing to solve this puzzle before they do...

The narration was solid, well-performed, and had the right tone and pace.

After listening to this book, I will almost certainly go back and listen to the first two AND continue with the rest of the series. Five stars all around!

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

What did you like best about this story?

I thought it was neat that Doyle's The Lost World was part of the clue pattern, but I enjoyed most how the story progressed, building upon clues and findings that led to the lost city and its secrets.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Dane Maddock--he (Kafer) has the attitude and tone right on target.

    Any additional comments?

    Very much worth the listen.

It'd be okay to pick this one up even if you've not listened to any of the previous novels in the series. Even though references are made to previous adventures, they're not vital to know and are easily followed/understood within the context of the current novel (Quest), so it stands alone well.

This was a really fun story, I couldn't stop listening until it had finished. As is usual for the Dane Maddock Adventures it is full of action and mystery. Great characters and good writing. A definite recommendation. Kafer does such a good job of bringing the characters to life.

    "had me hooked"

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. I must say that this isn't my typical type of read, but I am glad I gave it a chance. The story was great. It kept me interested and I was constantly wanting to find out what happened next. The narrator did a great job. The plot got more and more interesting as the story went on. Worth the time.

Percy Fawcett. Amazing explorer from the Turn of the last century. Real person not fiction. This author uses this fictional series to present you with bits of real history that will leave you searching out the facts to go along with the story. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves history. The author and narrator deliver a rich story with characters you can instantly connect with. Heroes and villains alike. Love this series and am continuously amazed at the deep historical links everyone of his novels has. Love it! Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

David Wood is another author to use a Prologue to draw me into the story. He gives me just enough to understand and know what's happening but to leave me wondering what they want. Wow. After that, I need to know what needed to be taken away then what Fawcett was looking for! David works in the prologue through out the story, and into the ending. We learn the story of those of old in the prologue. The hints they left drive us along to get to the end. Well done.

What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This is an older audio book done by Jeffrey, and I really enjoyed it! It felt like he had lots of emotion and thought in each word he spoke. The characters feel different as he speaks them, even works to vocalize them slightly different too. I love that he's got a sound to a voice on the phone or head set too. I really enjoyed this performance! This is a wonderful example of what I love to hear when listening to audiobooks.

I do so enjoy Dane Maddock and Bones Bonebreak's banter and fun comments. They do make me smile. They are a duo I do enjoy listening to. Even with the rest of the crew that works with them on dives, they all fit together so well. Great team! Maddock and Bones don't show fear, they react. But I guess that's the SEAL in them. They are smart and figure out historical clues along with have the bronze to fight when needed. Such a great balance with them together and individually.

We do get sections that is from the ScanGen as well. The owner and his lead employees. But in doing this we meet one of the new characters we'll deal with in the future. This is where we first meet Tam. And she tries to recruit Maddock and Bones on her team to stop the Dominion. Tam really makes an impression in this book. She's one strong woman.

I really enjoy these adventures for the mystery and action, but also for the characters I get to meet. I want to get all the books with these characters, but also set in this world. I'm hooked!
