One of the best
As a Dick Francis fan I think this is one of his best. A good mix of thriller, information and the unexpected. And well read too.

Noisy
Good story and read very well too. The reason I only gave an overall rating of 2 stars is because of the background hissing which spoiled my enjoyment

Good story, shame about the recording quality
A fine story and Tony Britton is an excellent narrator. The quality of the recording is disappointing.

A perennial favourite
I have listened to this wonderful reading by Tony Britton a couple of times before, and it always holds me. The characters come alive and I am swept into a world without mobile phones or the Internet, but still with the horror of merciless villains. I love it. And it has led me onto more of Dick Francis's novels, particularly those with Sid Halley as the protagonist.

Great Stuff
Gripping story, elegantly read by Tony Britton. The sheer decency, generosity and touching humanity of the main characters makes you long for a past age. And thrown in, as you would expect, a host of fascinating detail regarding the racing world - and a little of the wine-producing world too. But overall, a gripping, satisfying listen.

Classic Dick Francis, poor recording quality .
Another well paced , well structured and good old fashioned crime novel from Dick Francis. I have listened to Dick Francis recordings read by Tony Britton for many years and once again throughly enjoyed the storytelling by this excellent narrator.
However the quality of the recording is simply not good enough and diminishes the experience. Audible really need to digitally enhance the recording or offer an option read by an alternative narrator (albeit I would greatly miss the warm tones of Mr Britton).
