The audio is not good in many places - but don't let that put you off a great story read by the Tony Britton. When I think of Dick Francis I think of Tony Britton's voice.
Like every Dick Francis story, it draws you in and let's you ride alongside the hero as the solve the riddle of the book.
I've liked Dick Francis books for years and really enjoyed this one. I think Tony Britton's voice really makes them. A joy to listen to. Just bought another.
Usual good Dick Francis story.
Tony Britton is a good narrator, but it was marred by the poor sound quality which varied in loudness and had a tinny echoey effect.
As enjoyable as ever even if you have no interest in either horses or the wine trade! The writing draws you in from the start. Really well read.
"Another winner for this ex-jockey"
I've been reading Dick Francis since book 1, and I've got to say that if you like any of his books, chances are good you'll like the rest.
Even tho his plots always refer to British horse-racing, there's always a different take on it. I think his stories are exciting and his characters very human.
Go for it!
Tony Britton does a great job narrating this story. Dick Francis is a great writer. As a horse lover and race fan I always enjoy the inside view that Francis provides in his stories. I always learn something from his book and in this one was about the world of wines and whiskey. The pace always moves along and this book held a few nail biting moments of suspense. I wish Audible carried more of the Dick Francis books.
Dick Francis has so many well-written books that it is difficult to make a list of favorites. 'Proof' is one of mine, and while I know the story very well, it is a new pleasure to listen to it being read by Tony Britton. Highly recommended.
"Great story, well read."
Dick Francis is consistently excellent and this story maintains the standard. A macabre touch in the mode of murder, but Francis' usual perceptive insights into human nature. Top class.
"Needs to be re-recorded"
The audio was very old, changed tones and volumes multiple time and at times had an almost chirping sound in the background.
I enjoyed that the main character is working WITH the police for a change. It was mostly clean and was over all interesting. The final "battle" had me on the edge of my seat and sweating. The ending was great.
"One of my favourites!"
This is Beautifully written. Exciting story with a satisfying ending. Great characters. One of my favourite Dick Francis stories. Excellent narration.

"You Can't Go Wrong With a Dick Francis Book"
Interesting and fun.
The protagonist is an ordinary man just trying to do the best he can. This depiction allows the reader to relate to his troubles, and to root for his eventual triumph..
I have bought and listened to ALL of Dick Francis' books. Tony Britton is a great reader with the skill of differentiating the characters' voices, thus clarifying who's saying what. He's a terrific reader; and I love the English accent!
You can't go wrong buying a Dick Francis book. Every one of his stories is great.
"Another Dick Francis Classic"
