When Michael Hrubek escapes from a mental institution, the directors of the hospital are terrified that their professional reputation will be ruined, and tell the police that he's harmless, and not a danger to society.
This however, couldn't be further from the truth. Hrubek is on a mission to take revenge on society for his time spent in the institution. He is making his way towards the home of the woman who was responsible for his incarceration, and leaving a trail of bodies in his wake....

I am an avid multi tasker, I love to listen as I walk, ride, clean... Mostly love crime novels but have an occasional foray into other genre
Not at all
I failed to finish this book despite being on a 12 hour car journey! Once I got to the scene where the mad man killed an animal then masturbated using the blood I switched it off. This book needs a warning! Horrid
Strong characters with lots of subplots. There was obviuosly going to be a twist at the end, it was intriguing to try and work it out before you got there ( I did in this case :-) ).
I felt that in mid chapter when the scenes moved to different locations there wasn't enough of a pause to give you a chance to realise you had moved elsewhere. This led to me feeling a bit confused at times.
I enjoy Jeffery Deaver's novels, but I had to give up on this one when I realised I still had 8 hours to go.The story meanders along without really getting anywhere and the treatment of mental health issues is outdated. The narration doesn't help. It sounds wooden and the reader is unable to distinguish between different characters' voices
Takes till very near the end before it gets gripping. Good ending though . Not the best of PF Jeffery Deaver
Not really. It is basically a very simple story that is overcomplicated with a long list of red herrings.
There are a lot of other writers I would try first.
He did his best with a poor text and a host of characters who had little to distinguish them.
I hope not. I certainly won't be watching it.
Enjoy listening to crime and mystery thrillers. Favourite authors/narrators: Mankell, Nesbo, Hewson, James, Lyndsey/Reichlin & Barrett
Interesting end, but I just didn't engage with the characters, and didn't capture my interest. At several points I seriously considered questioned why I was listening to this, and even with an interesting unusual end I haven't changed my view.
Audiobooks are my not so secret addiction. I listen daily & look for good narration and interesting storylines.
Good fiction. Fast past and kept me engaged throughout. Looking forward to reading this authors take on James Bond.
This is another Deaver great. The characters are painted in such a way that you know each of them intimately - or do you? A gripping read.
it is actually quite a clever story
twist at the end
It wasn't unputdownable - a bit long winded and didn't keep me on the edge of the seat at all times, although it did have exciting parts
I have to say that I was initially disappointed by this book. I found the characters more distant and difficult to engage with than usual and some if the writing was somewhat long winded in places - I remember thinking, OK, get on with the story. It picked up a lot more though after and the characters became much more real, then the twists started to come and the book really unfolded. Tha narration was great, just slightly odd when, at the end, the author was announced as "John Deaver"...
