Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralysed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it's being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

"Devilishly clever." (Sunday Times)
Patricia Cornwall at her best compelling and riveting and well read by Lorelei King excellent and I lost sleep as l could not stop listening !
Once I got into the Flow of it, couldn't put it down. Good book.
Now living in Norfolk, enjoy historical fiction, political biography/autobiography and the classics.
I am amazed this series went on to sell millions. It is full of cardboard characters and has a tissue thin plot line.
This is the first time I've read Patricia Cornwell and I plan to read more. A bit remeniscent if some if the Bones books and some of the writing is 'of its time', but it kept me gripped until the end. Lorelei King is great narrator.
loved it, it was as relaxing to have the story read to me as to read it myself only without the hassle of holding the book :)
