The reader of this book sounds like he is making a dirty phone call! Is probably a cracking story but this guy is driving me to distraction.

"Don't understand poor reviews on here?"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is fab! Do read the other Alex Cross books first, as that way you'll get more out of the story. Superb

Who was your favorite character and why?

Love Alex's relationship with his kids, Nanna and Sampson- such a mistake for the film of "Along comes a spider" to miss this out! Some laugh out loud parts when these interact

Which character – as performed by Michael Kramer – was your favourite?

Michael Kramer is slated in other reviews-really cannot understand why? No probs at all for me.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Rather than make me laugh or cry, it simply results in sleep deprevation as I cannot turn it off!

    Any additional comments?

Love all the Alex Cross books- this was great. 10 hours long so a real bargain-good value for money. Didn't know what a Jane Doe meant though! Worked it out.....at one point Alex describes something inconsequential as 'the best moment of his life'......what about the birth of his kids?!

    "Terrible, lacks complexity and boring"

Anyone who is used to Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben, Jo Nesbo, Lee Child et al will not like this. Thin plot which you expect will get clever any moment but it doesn't. I listened because there seem to be Alex Cross fans out there but I'm not sure why. His character is possibly the most boring detective I have ever read or listened to.Give me Harry Bosch any time.

"Lots of action but very implausible."

as my title suggests, the plot is strained to say the least, but there is a lot going on throughout the book. Putting aside my disbelief I quite enjoyed this Alex Cross novel.

    "So So Book-ahhhhhh"

I thought the plot was good and characters were interesting. I didn't think this is one of his best. My main complaint was the narrator. I had a hard time listening because he finished his sentences was a annoying ahhhhhhh. Good book-ahhhhhhh. Bad narrator-ahhhhhh. I recommend it if you can put up with the ahhhhhs.

    "Agree-aaahhh"

True James Patterson style. However, it is a better read than a listen. I agree with the other reviewer, the aahh's are annoying and take away from the plot and characters greatly. Other narrators for his books are light years better.

    "not the best"

I enjoy most of Patterson's works...if it was't for the narrator who I agree with the other reviewers was not very good, it was a good story...

    "Alex Cross is losing me"

First, Michael Kramer's narration was exceedingly offputting, breathless(literally). I've never in all my Audible experience heard such pronounced breathing sounds, which for some reason the sound editors decided was appropriate. The first paragraph almost caused me to quit this one.

Nevertheless, I stuck it out. Alex Cross seemed impotent in this installment of the series. Can't solve the crimes. Can't stay focused on his personal loss. Can't keep himself from muttering under his breath in an effort to build suspense. It just didn't work very well, James Patterson.

"What a shame about the narration!"

This is one of Patterson's best books in the Alex Cross series. The story is gripping, the plot develops logically, yet with unexpected twists that keep it exciting. Characters are well developed. Just an excellent Patterson.

But the narration! Michael Kramer's narration is both breathless and breath-y. Almost every sentence ends with an audible puff of air that became extremely annoying within the first five minutes. In this book with a number of international characters, it was a shame to have a narrator who was unsuccessful at differentiating accents. In fact, it was very difficult to tell the characters apart. There seemed to be one voice for the American males and one for the UK males. The English accent was supercilious and unlike any real English accent I have ever heard.

The narration is why I gave this great vintage Patterson only two stars. It was a deep disappointment.

"A clear need for a "Do Over"."

This listen was extremely disappointing! I couldn’t wait for it to painfully grind to a final finish and had to stop listening about half way through.
The narrator was not an ideal choice in this instance. The nerve rash that I felt consumed any pleasure I may have gotten from a good story written by a brilliant writer.
Perhaps if a more talented or experienced narrator were contracted this could become a rescue and salvage success.

    "Narrator is HORRIBLE!"
What disappointed you about Pop Goes the Weasel?

    Narrator

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

don't know, the narrator is too distracting to concentrate on the story

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    his

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

i'm not even half way...I guess story line is the redeeming quality

    Any additional comments?

If I can swap out this book for the abridge version at not cost, it would help. I did learn a lesson...read reviewes and listen to a sample...I'll be doing this from now on.

Narrator's voice so irritating I couldn't listen past the first 10 minutes. I love the series but will have to read the hard cover copy of this one.

    "awful narration"

although I've never been diagnosed with OCD, it's possible because the pant/breath the narrator made at the end of every phrase he spoke drove me crazy.
