Summary

The murder has been solved. But has justice been done? Harry Hole is back in Oslo. He's been away for some time, but his ghosts have a way of catching up with him. The case that brings him back is already closed. There is no room for doubt: The young junkie was shot dead by a fellow addict. The police don’t want him back....

Denied permission to reopen the investigation, Harry strikes out on his own. Beneath the city's eerie tranquillity, he discovers a trail of violence and mysterious disappearances seemingly unnoticed by the police. At every turn Harry is faced with a conspiracy of silence. The criminals don’t want him back....

Harry is not the only one who is interested in the case. From the moment he steps off the plane, someone is watching his every move and tracing his every call. Someone wants him silenced.

Harry the super super hero

I have loved all the Harry Hole books but I agree with the previous reviewer that Harry has powers of endurance beyond belief, that said I did love this book it has more twists and turns than a corkscrew and does keep you guessing until the very end. This is a tale of addiction and corruption which Harry susses out in his usual heroic style and a very surprising ending. Would recommend.

Pacey and intense

This time it’s very personal and Harry will use whatever methods he can, however unorthodox, to catch the killer. Harry’s demons are still there, and his body continues to take extreme punishment in some tense and terrifying situations.

Harry has left a Hole

The story twists around until Harry pulls it back on the rails, although it's some time before he solves the case. Beautifully done and what a twist.
Sean Barrett's narration is a huge part of the episode. There seemed to be more voices that Sean has brought to life in this story, but you always know that it's Harry speaking or it's Harry's thoughts. I also liked it when Harry stayed sober all through the book. He has beat the bottle at last.
There's so much I could talk about but I don't want to drop any spoilers. Perhaps when a few more have listened to the book, I will make a fresh review.
I'd like to ask Jo for another chapter to tie up the store and outline the next step(s). I have a great storyline. You've got my details, give me a call.

More heart pumping suspence from Jo Nesbo...

Would you consider the audio edition of Phantom: A Harry Hole Thriller, Book 9 to be better than the print version?

Another great edition to the Harry Hole series, Jo Nesbo weaves a complex plot involving Police hierachy, Harry's nearest and dearest as well as a drugs overlord thrown in for good measure. I'm amazind how Nesbo manages to keep the plot lines and characters fresh. Sean Barret once again brings the characters to life in with his moody, gravelly tones. The book reaches a great climax which will leave you ordering the next in the series straight away. Let's hope Nesbo can keep going with Harry Hole and any plans to bring the character to film are short lived.

Harry Hole is a thug

This book looks deep into Harry Hole's soul. Not now a police officer. Seemingly without a conscience for the people he kills. A painful descent into the wrong side of the law. Gripping. Best read after the earlier books in the Hole series. Narration as excellent as ever.
