Summary
In the peace and tranquility of the woods at Pinehills on a Saturday afternoon, a mobile phone begins to ring. The phone belongs to DC Smith, and it isn't unusual that the call is from Kings Lake Central police station; what is unusual is the fact that he seems to be the subject of an investigation rather than taking part in one. What can the links be between a prisoner's violent death in another county, the disappearance of two teenagers, and the highest profile case in Kings Lake for many years? As Smith and his team begin to untangle the threads, one thing becomes clear - they are dealing with some of the most dangerous people that they have yet encountered.

Wholesome Escapism
This is a good one, with scintillating witty dialogue giving me constant chuckles.
I like how "D.C." is not one of these ineffective types who cannot articulate and gets wiped across the floor by the other in dialogue, most usually women. This author's plots survive without the frustration of ineffective and inarticulate dialogue. Such an intelligent writer, and such a winsome narrator.

Yet again I have really enjoyed listening to this story. The author, characters and narrator were great as usual.

Great.
The fourth in the Sargeant 'DC' Smith series. I am working my merry way through them. I have really enjoyed each one - I love DC's humour that comes through and the storylines are complex without being to hard hitting. The narration was first class again.

Great listen

I adore this whole series: character is everything, with intricate mysteries teased open by an utterly compelling central detective. Best modern detective series I know.

Oh my goodness!
I was totally gripped from first to last... one of the most riveting and enjoyable audio books I have ever had the pleasure of listening to ... As a retired Police Officer I felt as if I was back on duty myself with the officers of Kings Lake as they fought the good fight!
