Summary

A collection of short stories featuring the redoubtable ‘heart specialist’, Parker Pyne. This volume, in its contemporary Agatha Christie Collection livery, perfectly illustrates Agatha Christie’s critically–acclaimed foray into light-hearted, romantic mysteries.

Mrs Packington felt alone, helpless and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in The Times which read: ‘ARE YOU HAPPY? IF NOT, CONSULT MR PARKER PYNE’.

Equally adept at putting together the pieces of a marriage or the fragments of a murder mystery, Mr Parker Pyne was possibly the world’s most unconventional private eye – and certainly its most charming.

Critic reviews

"Crimes of the heart were his forte." (Observer)

"These extend beyond the classic murders to oddities such as the exploits of Mr Parker Pyne, roly-poly 'specialist in every kind of human trouble' who will, for a fee, cure his clients of unhappiness." (The Sunday Times)

Enjoyable stories of Parker Pyne

I loved all these stories of Parker Pyne by Agather Christie there's even one called The Death on the Nile nothing to do with Poirot and has a different plot so enjoy all these short stories.

There are diffent titles for these stories so why couldn't the lazy audio book publisher put these in in the chapter headings so I could easily find a story I wanted to hear again or go back at another date instead of Chapter 1 and so forth. These are meant to be the audio version's of the books so how hard is it to put the titles in.

Love Hugh Fraser!

He has a wonderful interesting voice and kept my attention constantly. For me he is amongst the best story tellers and these stories were VERY Agatha Christie.
Absolutely delighted

Possibly my favourite Agatha Christie!

I love Agatha Christie, however hadn’t heard of Parker Pyne. I was interested by the summary of the first plot. Each case was so different, there are crossovers of mystery, detective and adventure genres. I so wish that there had been many more written as I actually prefer these to Poirot.

Typical Christie

What made the experience of listening to Parker Pyne Investigates the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the short stories which I don't usually go for. However, I listen to these in the car and they proved easy to listen to, in the amazing Christie style, still left you guessing until the end in

What was one of the most memorable moments of Parker Pyne Investigates?

The last few stories contained more mysteries, poisoning and stolen jewels which I thoroughly enjoyed.

What does Hugh Fraser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

As a fast reader, it was pleasant to have the calming, well spoken voice reading the story to me. It allowed me to ponder over who was responsible.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nostalgic feelings.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth a listen.

Something completely different

I enjoyed these strange tales, out of the usual Christie mould. Needless to say they are unlikely stories, but ingenious and a nice change from middle class murders.
