Summary

Amazing what bodily injury could do for a man.

A fall from a racehorse had left brilliant jockey Sid Halley dangerously depressed, with a wrecked hand and the need for a new career. And now a bullet wound was helping him find one. He'd been with a detective agency since his racing accident, but it wasn't until some two-bit hoodlum drilled a slug into his side that he was sent out on a case of his own.

That was where he met Zanna Martin, a woman who just might make life worth living again. But it was an even-money bet that he'd be killed before he had the chance.

Gripping story

Excellent storyline if maybe a little dated now. Reader first class varied voices for characters. Throughly enjoyed

Great story although the sound quality is variable

Really enjoyed listening to this story and enjoyed hearing Tony Britton’s voice again.

The actual sound quality does vary throughout the recording but it doesn’t affect the enjoyment too much.

Gripping

Loved the older Dick Francis books, absolutely enthralling and so interesting as an audio book

A fast paced thriller

This book is quite old so some things are missing eg mobile phones. Although this title was not the first Dick Francis novel it was the first time I’d read one and I was hooked. The characters are well-drawn, the mystery is quietly suspenseful until the final big action scene where you will not want to put it down. The wrapping up chapter is equally exciting as the protagonist tries to find out why the antagonist was so intense. A very satisfying ending.

You can meet Sid Halley again in Whip Hand.

On the nose

Another winner from Dick Francis..... who can always be depended upon to provide an attention grabbing and holding drama in the life of my favourite of his creations, jockey Sid Halley. Read in his usual
urbane and ploshed style by Tony Britton.

Great Story…

The tech referred to is obviously out of date now but a,ways enjoyed DickFrancis stories. Obviously written by someone who knew his subject thoroughly. Tony Britton reads this books so we’ll with excellent characterisation. Two talents sadly no longer with us. Shame Audible cannot improve the sound quality.. re recorded from a well worn tape I guess.
Well worth a listen.
