Summary

The brand-new Jack Reacher short story, published as an audio exclusive.

The tiny town of Naismith has nothing going for it - except the start of a wilderness trail through Maine's ancient forests. But one day the trail is suddenly closed by county police.

No reason is given. Rumours start - is there something in the woods that no one must see? That no one must even know about? Then Jack Reacher drifts into town. What does he make of the Do Not Enter tape strung between the trees?

I love Lee Child, gritty and uncompromising!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, it is a brilliant book that includes the best features of Jack Reacher, the no nonsense muscle man of justice and fairness. He is like Judge Dredd but without the restraint.

What other book might you compare Not a Drill to, and why?

He is like an uncompromising James Bond, so the nearest Bond book in similarity would probably be live and let die, it is a taught thriller with action sequences in the right places, just like Bond.

What does Kerry Shale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Kerry Shale is the perfect hard guy impersonation of Reacher that I know. I know if it is a Shale book it will be exciting and emotive.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Afraid to go into the woods? You should be!

Any additional comments?

Just a great book and what I have come to expect from Lee Child

A good little story

By Lee Child's standards this is a very short story but intriguing nonetheless.

Reacher is his usual mysterious self, breaking the rules where necessary, and using a Sherlock Holmes-like sense of justice when needed.

I can't say too much without becoming a "Spoiler" but the story leaves one thinking about the suggestions it contains.

Kerry Shale reads the Reacher books when they are presented in an abridged format and it would be nice to hear his gravelly voice in a full length story.

Ok, but slightly dissatisfying.

Fairly implausible storyline that takes its time getting there and is all too suddenly over and gone leaving me feel slightly cheated.

Not like the others

An entertaining short story; same Reacher in a different style. Not long enough to meet a law enforcement lady for a fling.

Not the usual narrator, so not the usual Reacher

This is a brief novella. It has all the usual character traits of a Jack Reacher novel, except that for me, it wasn't Reacher! I'm really accustomed to the original narrator, so his absence distracted me from the story.

I think i missed something towards the end - a kind of punchline - I didn't get it! So I'll have to listen again.

I do like however, that he just stumbled across this mini adventure, just part and parcel of the incidents he comes across whilst meandering around the country!

An interesting short story

A cracking short story. Not as engaging as Reacher usually is but performed and acquitted in excellent fashion.

Short story

Nothing to get your teeth into
Not the usual rush of anticipation the other Jack Reacher books have
Not an essential book to read

I am not keen on short stories

I am reading the Jack Reacher stories numerically so doing the n.5s as they arrive. They are contained and finish correctly but just lack any depth. Kerry Shale does a brilliant job narrating as always. I am buying these through Kindle with Whispersync, I really don’t recommend them at the Audible price.

Loved the Twin Peaks setting

I liked the setting but not keen on Kerry Shales Batman voice. Enjoyable story though.
