Summary

A diplomat’s murder reunites Cowley and Danilov in a global search for the killer

There’s nothing surprising about the body. The wounds are precise, their meaning clear. The Washington, DC, cops have seen enough like them to know that they mean a mob hit. And when mobsters kill their own, there’s not much the police can do about it. They’re prepared to dismiss the case when someone looks at the dead man’s ID. He was Russian - and a diplomat.

William Cowley, the head of the FBI’s Russian office, takes on the case. A year earlier he had solved a strange killing with the help of Dimitri Danilov, a Russian cop with a sense of honor rare in the lawless, post-Communist world. Now they rejoin forces, embarking on an around-the-world search for the meaning of the diplomat’s death.

Kill Shots

This is Book 2 (Book 1: In the Name of a Killer). Another intense adventure playing in their bailiwicks for these physically unattractive MCs. More brains than brawn, more front that Brighton. But for such clever men, they make their personal lives into a quagmire.

Enjoy this long and well narrated in depth tale of the scrapes these MCs find themselves in this time round. Is there a book 3 of this series?

SO ENJOYABLE

A Great Story but a Difficult Listen

The story is absorbing and the characters from the first novel are fully developed and totally relatable. This might be a book that is easier to read if you are able, though. With so many characters and such a convoluted plot, I found myself winding back a lot. It was absolutely worth the effort.

Well paced story

I enjoyed it but needed to pay attention to the russian names, the narrator did a good job with the accents.

Enjoyed it

Enjoyed listening to it. Good story but complicated so i had to concentrate on the names of the individuals. Which made a change.

Enjoyed.

Second book about the Russian detective. Blends well with the first story. I was keen to find time to listen to the audio.

a tale of Western views of Russia today.

Fremantle has shown in this novel that he is reliant on Charlie Muffin. a great tale of corruption all the way to the top. Enough twists and turns to keep listeners entertained A good continuance of identifiable characters ensures the listener knows their backstop.

Spoilt by Narrator

Might have been a good story but was spoilt by awful attempt at Russians accents and poor narration generally. Gave up trying to follow the story after about 2 hours, shame really.

Complicated storyline with a few twists.

So many different people made the initial following difficult and the reading needed gaps between obvious places where the narration moved from one part of the story to another. This may have been editing or reading but either way, not easy to follow.

Too long!

Well written plot overall but I stopped paying attention to all the characters names and just tried to enjoy the narration...
