Summary

A gripping thriller from the get-go, the 21st novel in Lee Child's best-selling Jack Reacher series is a prequel, taking us back in time to his US Army Military Police days circa 1996. Fresh off a successful mission in the Balkans, he's commended with a medal but then mysteriously receives new orders. He's about to be sent back to school.

In the morning they gave Reacher a medal. And in the afternoon, they sent him back to school.

Night School takes Reacher back to his army days, but this time he's not in uniform. With trusted sergeant Frances Neagley at his side, he must carry the fate of the world on his shoulders in a wired, fiendishly clever new adventure that will make cold sweat trickle down your spine.

Not the best Reacher but adequate

If you could sum up Night School in three words, what would they be?

More of same

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Slow burner but gets there in the end. It does not grip you from the outset so you have to persist for several hours.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

As usual - the finale

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Reacher - sans Tom Cruise!

Any additional comments?

Jeff Harding does his usual excellent job of bringing the plot to life in a uniquely Reacher way, but the book lacks the lustre of previous efforts.

Disappointed

I was really quite enjoying the plot of this book however found the description of sexual scenes quite disturbing and totally unnecessary, discreet reference could have been made without the detail if at all. Perhaps when describing the book then the prospective mention should be made of the sexual content so that the reader can make an informed choice about whether to peruse the purchase of not

OK

Not my favourite Lee Child book but still an intense listen. I found the narrator difficult because in my head, Jack Reacher doesn’t sound like this.

Jack is back

Love the Reacher series, and this is another enjoyable addition, only let down by the narrator. At times he sounded like he was reading off a grocery list rather than telling a story. Disappointing audio book for that reason alone.

did not like the narrator

Should have sampled this before buying it! Narrators voice grated on me throughout and actually left me with a headache on more than one occasion. very disappointed. First Reacher book listened to via Audible after reading all the previous ones myself

Excellent.

Great story and good choice of narrator. Lew Child continues to entertain as always.

Minimum Reacher.

I struggled to keep an interest in this title. There wasn’t enough Reacher in the entire book. It seemed to focus more on other characters. It won’t be getting a second run through.
