Summary

Eleven years ago Lindsey Nash escaped into the night with her young daughter and left an abusive relationship. Her ex-husband, Andrew, was sent to jail, and Lindsey started over with a new life. Now Lindsey is older and wiser, with her own business and a teenage daughter who needs her more than ever.

When Andrew is finally released from prison, Lindsey believes she has cut all ties and left the past behind her. But she gets the sense that someone is watching her, tracking her every move. Her new boyfriend is threatened. Her home is invaded, and her daughter is shadowed. Lindsey is convinced it's her ex-husband, even though he claims he's a different person. But has he really changed? Is the one who wants her dead closer to home than she thought?

5 stars

This book is gripping and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story. When you start shouting ' get out get out get out ' while driving to work, you know it's a good book. I'm actually exhausted by it all. It's one of those books you can't put down. Both narrators are excellent, I'm actually missing their voices. Going to read something sweet and sickly now.

Good in parts!

The story started well and appeared to develop into a nail-biter. However, about halfway through, it seemed to descend into the realms of fantasy. I wasn't sure what to make of Lynsey or her daughter, Sophie, both of whom began to get on my nerves a bit with their introspection. The male characters were also rather unconvincing. Added to which, the narration was a tad staccato- almost as those the narrator was reading to children! The ending was absolutely dire and didn't match the rest of the story- far too mushy and emotional. Having said all that, others might enjoy this book - I was glad to get to the end as I hate giving up on books, hoping things will improve. In this case, unfortunately it didn't!

Good fast-moving thriller.

I enjoyed it, apart from the last chapter which got a bit too mawkish for my English taste...but apart from that ... a fast moving thriller which kept me gripped.

Boringly Predictable!

From the first paragraph, I knew EXACTLY where the story was going! Mel the protagonist got on my nerves and Abbey was just vile.
Extremely predictable and quite boring. However, great narration from Joanne Froggatt
