In the erotic fantasy Midnight Man, silkily performed with a coy wink by Alexandra R. Josephs, someone has just moved into Suzanna Barron's building. He's a man named John Huntington. And he just so happens to be the sexiest hunk that Ms. Barron has ever seen in her life.
The passion is not unrequited and the two quickly move to marathon lovemaking sessions - described with such detail it's as if the listener has been issued a direct challenge not to blush.
Killers are also after Suzanna, by the way. But it's okay. Because John Huntington is a former Navy SEAL warrior...because of course he is.
Interior decorator Suzanne Barron's new tenant is the most dangerously sexy man she's ever met. Navy Commander John Huntington, a former SEAL (aka 'Midnight Man') works best under cover of darkness. Within hours of meeting him, Suzanne has wild, no-holds barred sex with John, then panics at the depth of her passionate response to such a powerful and dangerous warrior. Suzanne doesn't do sex like that. John is definitely someone she needs to avoid for her own peace of mind. But when killers come for her, Suzanne knows she can turn to only one man. John will guard and protect her body. But who will guard and protect her body against John?

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters in it and the descriptive writing. I have purchased the other books in this series as well. The narration is excellent and I would recommends this book to anyone who likes stories about alpha males
I seem to be in the minority here but this book was just ok for me. I didn't feel like the characters were well developed. The "love" came out of nowhere and I couldn't fathom why; I didn't much care if the characters lived or died as I felt like I didn't really know them. Not to mention there were some overall implausibility. Someone tried to kill Suzanne and she gets whisked off to a cabin with a relative stranger and has wild sex and finds love and not once does she question what the hell is going on until the very end!! Really?!?! I find that hard to believe but, even if I were to suspend reality for a bit, I still couldn't understand why John fell in love with her within days of meeting her. I understand his reason to protect her as that was in his nature, but love?? Nah, didn't feel it. Will probably not read others in the series if they are like this one.
Characters not fleshed out
It wasn't terrible but not great either
Oh, yummy yummy yummy!!!! Great book! Hotter than hot, plausible story, no virgins or billionaires, and it grabs you from minute one!
This is technically part of a trilogy but it's not really a continuing story of the same 2 people. This is technically book 1, but book 2 overlaps this time frame so when I started book 2 I thought audible had made an error, but no, the author says this is book one as well.
Okay, being a former Naval commander John is a bit awkward out of uniform. He still gives off scary sniper bad ass vibes but hey he is who he is, and being the alpha male that he is he knows what he wants and he wants his new landlord....any way he can get her!
Suzanne is a normal woman with a normal life, she's a designer of spaces. She can come in and design an office or a living room to suit your personality and style. A pet project of hers has been to redesign a building she owns and the day after she posts the ad in the paper she is surprised to meet the former Naval commander who is setting up his new security company and needs to rent a space. He has danger written all over him...but that's actually oddly appealing!
This book is highly recommended! It has heat and action and yummy alpha maleness! Already downloaded book 2. I did feel the ending of the story was abrupt so I have to give it 4 stars but I'm hoping we can hear a bit more about these two in the other books.
"Pretty good start to the series :D"
This was a pretty good story. I really liked John and Suzanne and enjoyed their story. This was the first book I've read by this author and based on this I'd try more of her work in the future.
Suzanne is an interior designer in Portland, OR. She also owns a building that she's renovated. She lives and works out of one side and decided to rent out the other side. When she sets up an appointment with a business man interested in her property, she's not expecting the man that showed up as he's rough and dangerous looking, seeming like a hunter with her as his prey. She finds herself attracted to him but still kind of scared at the same time, not scared that he'll hurt her but of the intensity of the feelings he rouses in her.
John is an ex-Navy SEAL and now runs a security business after an early retirement due to injuries. He settles down in Portland but have been very busy with his new security business, things going so well that he has to expand his offices. He is seeing about the new office space when he meets Suzanne. He likes the office space and is very attracted to Suzanne so he decides he'll have both of them and John is good at achieving his objectives.
John and Suzanne get through their initial meeting and come to an accord about the rental. Suzanne even has some designs already drawn up for the space that John decides are perfect, feeling like she could have made the designs specifically for him. John also makes Suzanne realize that her current security system is crap (by breaking in to prove his point) and promises to install a new system as soon as he gets moved in to the building. John wastes no time and asks Suzanne out that very night, managing to get reservations at a very exclusive place where they have a good night. John is much more forward and blatant about what he wants than Suzanne is used to and she has some problems adjusting but yet she's very attracted to John and there's something more that draws her to him. When he takes her home, their goodnight kiss explodes in to a bout of hot sex, after which Suzanne freaks out a little and distances herself from John overnight. John is way in to Suzanne but is struggling because he wants to be gentle for her and worries that he might hurt her inadvertently during sex. When she freaks he worries that's why but is determined to not let go of her and get back on her good side. They see each other the next morning and John shows his overprotective side a bit but overall they get things on a better level between them.
Suzanne has a busy day with her work and then goes home, settles in for the night but can't sleep. This ends up being a fortunate thing because it means she is up and realizes when someone breaks in to her home and seems to be coming after her with a gun. She calls John and he saves her but after a second attempt is made on her life soon after, John decides to take her in to hiding until things can be figured out. They end up out in a cabin the the middle of the boonies where they should be safe. During their time out there, Suzanne and John get back to their physical relationship but also start feeling emotions for each other. Suzanne is shocked by how much John's willing to do to keep her safe, taking down assassins gunning for her and leaving his business and all to help her at a moments notice. Even though he's much rougher than most men she's known, she sees the good guy beneath through his actions. John is also going through a lot of emotional changes as well as he finds he feels a lot more for Suzanne than he ever expected. John has never even been in a relationship before and he realizes that Suzanne is the kind of woman that deserves a lot more than rough sex. Regardless of their differences, they work well together and find happiness being with each other. Then the bomb hits when they finally (with very bad timing) figure out what Suzanne knows that caused killers to be after her and it's bad! Things don't look good and it looks like Suzanne and John will be separated for good but John isn't willing to let Suzanne go and takes matters in to his own hands. Maybe not the "right" solution to the issue but I found I was good with the way it worked out. Once John does his thing, he and Suzanne are reunited and he takes her home for their HEA to begin.
Overall this was a pretty good story. I liked the characters and enjoyed the story. The story does take place over a very short time so it's a bit of an insta-love (or maybe not insta but very quick) situation but it works for the story. I liked this one enough that I plan to read the next book in the series that revolves around Bud (a cop introduced in this book) and Suzanne's best friend, Claire. I'd recommend this book. :D
"Hot and steamy"
Loved the book
John is the kind of man every woman could fall for, He's not a knight in shinning armor but he's more like an animal who's raw and primal . claire is the kind of woman with all her ducks in a row. She's smart and in control of her life. The sex scenes are hot and steamy, but there is an actual story.
The only thing I can say is it could have been longer..the book stopped kind of abruptly,But I'll still give it 5 stars
"I would answer my door 2 the Midnight Man any Time"
Midnight Man features everything you expect to see in a Lisa Marie Rice book. A military man who is hard and rough with a bizarre love for black turtle neck jumpers. A damsel in distress who is delicate and would never normally be interested in a guy as unsophisticated as the military man. A threat to her life that turns him into some kind of hybrid Rambo and lots oh so steamy Sex scenes. Lisa Marie did not disappoint me and i will be looking for more delicious books to down load from her. Narration was very enjoyable from Alexandra R. Josephs! :)
This is the first in the series, but I don't think I want to read the other books. The hero was so over the top macho I found him offensive, especially when he says a women couldn't beat a guy. The women was too needed and you got it the first 50 times the author described how much they found each other attractive. The action was slow in coming and not enough for a seal book. Plus the other members of the security team were mentioned but there was no brotherhood bond.. all in all I was bored.
"Good if you're in the Mood for a Romantic Thriller"
Although I don't know much about ex-military/international security jobs, this seemed realistic to me. I've read other version of this sub-genre and many times they seem a little hokey. The hero was smart and a little damaged, with a heart of gold, and the heroine was fairly strong and independent. There were a few twists I didn't see coming and great sex scenes, so all and all this was pretty good.
"A hot and sexy listen! Recommended""
Suzanne inherited a factory building which she converted into two units. Each unit has an office for the public in front and an apartment in the back (kitchen, bedroom, etc.) Suzanne is an interior decorator. She works and lives in her unit. Suzanne placed an ad for a tenant to rent the second unit. John sees the ad and ends up renting the second unit. He is a former navy SEAL and currently has a security firm. It's love and lust at first sight. John takes Suzanne out for dinner the first night. On the second night, a hit man sneaks into Suzanne's apartment planning to kill her. She calls John, and he is able to get there in time to save her. John takes her to a secluded cabin in the mountains until the authorities can figure out why she is a target.
I loved how John was always so intensely turned on that he couldn't control himself and couldn't be gentle. He tried, but his lust for Suzanne was too consuming. Character wise think powerful caveman with delicate angel. The sex, the characters and the plot were all excellent. I loved the ending. It made me think of Mr. Darcy's "grand gesture." Although different from Mr. Darcy's gesture, John's actions at the end of the book were a "grand gesture." I loved what he did. The only weakness in the story was that a few times there was too much pondering in the minds of the characters. This book is shorter than most romance novels, but worthwhile. This is the first of three books in the Midnight series.
Alexandra Josephs did a great job with the delivery of the story
"WHY IS THIS BOOK ON AUDIBLE'S LIST?"
This is a poorly written bodice ripper disguised as a thriller. 80% of the dialogue is of the male and female protagonists' sexual feelings and activities. I will admit that I laughed many times through the dialogue and about half way through, when I was about to stop wasting my time with this one, I just hung on to see if there ever was a plot. But, about 70% done, I just had enough of "his bulging chest muscles" and their "throbbing" this and "rock hard" that, and stopped. I was annoyed that I spent time and credits on this one for sure.
Not given up her day job.
Not being a fan of romance novels, it's hard to judge.
Annoyance. A feeling that Audible needs to do a better job of judging the worthiness of its choices.
"I really wanted to like this."
The story and characters were poorly written...actually what story there was could have been told in 30 minutes. It was 8 hours of sex, badly written sex.
I'm not sure this one was even written by her. The whole thing was a disappointment.
She did an ok job of narrating but John voice was somehow off. Of course there wasn't even a character developed even to have a personality.
The only redeeming quality was when it finally ended.
