Summary
The unabridged, digital audiobook edition of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Mercy, Scandinavia’s new bestselling crime phenomenon.
Read by the actor Steven Pacey. At first the prisoner scratches at the walls until her fingers bleed. But there is no escaping the room. With no way of measuring time, her days, weeks, months go unrecorded. She vows not to go mad. She will not give her captors the satisfaction. She will die first. Copenhagen detective Carl has been taken off homicide to run a newly created department for unsolved crimes. His first case concerns Merete Lynggaard, who vanished five years ago. Everyone says she's dead. Everyone says it’s a waste of time. He thinks they’re right.
The voice in the dark is distorted, harsh and without mercy. It says the prisoner’s torture will only end when she answers one simple question. It is one she has asked herself a million times: WHY is this happening?

Worth persevering!
Slow burner of a book slightly spoilt by the strange British accents taken on by the narrator. Well worth persevering through the first few chapters as the story unfolds, takes a while but trust me it is well worth it!

You have just discovered a great book!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was the first time I had heard of this author and I was transfixed. The back stories are curious and interesting making you captivated about what lays behind their personal stories. The main plot is enveloping, and engrossing.
What did you like best about this story?
The story took you in wrapped it's arms about you and held you snugly until the very last word.
Any additional comments?
Interestingly, at first I couldn't get over how much Steven Pacey sounds like Ronnie Corbett, but that didn't detract and have just purchased two further titles by the same author and narrator.

What a brilliant start to the Series of Dept Q
Loved the story, the reading and that wonderfully superb dry humour of the characters "thoughts" - a thoroughly entertaining listen.

Very good, unusual storyline
My first experience with this author and I chose it because I like this narrator. Was very pleasantly surprised at the storyline which was just that bit different from the usual detective stories. I will buy another from this author, provided the narrator is the same.

If you like Nordic noir
Generally a good story . But why oh why do males narrators put on such stupid voices for female characters? It's a bit insulting.

Scandi Crime at its best
Excellent story, gripping, even better than the tv version which was good but this has great detail and characterisation.

great thriller with complex undertones
finally a riveting crime thriller with a potent mix. the usual inept police officers and the tortured acrid brilliant detective with political play thrown in.
