Innocence is in the eye of the beholder . . .A collection of short stories, ranging from crimes of passion and violence in Kingsmarkham to a bizarre murder in Yugoslavia, featuring the world-famous Detective Chief Inspector Wexford. "Nigel Anthony's reading sets this recording of five short mysteries by Rendell...above others in the genre. Chief inspector Wexford and inspector Burden investigate poisonings, baby-swapping, theft, and forgery in 'Means of Evil', 'Old Wives Tales', 'Ginger and the Kingsmarkham Chalk Circle', 'Achilles Heel', and 'When the Wedding Was Over'. A brilliant collection of short stories featuring Wexford and Burden, have listened to them over and over. Love Nigel Anthony's portrayal of the characters.
It has the elements of detective fiction without much of the resolution. Some of the stories built well but it was a pretty stale and very brief collection
The narration of the stories deserve a special mention. The stories were compelling - I found myself taking the long route home just to try and find out the ending. Highly recommended
