Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she's harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin - and banish the ghosts of his own dark past - is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her....
Risa has spent six years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah's lover and draw a killer into the open. It's a risky plan - especially with a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever....

"A great listen and it had me hooked at Chapter 1"
Typical LL book - brilliant plot as the secret Elite Ops team head another mission that is filled with ex Military/Special Forces hunks (all handsome and buff of course!) as they battle against the evils of this world that no-one else can touch. This has more of a 'mystery and thriller' type theme and I think that is why this has been listed under that category rather than the Romance genre as book 1 was.
However, don't despair as it has lots and lots of hot romance too written by the queen of erotic romance novels and, if you are familiar with her other books, she doesn't disappoint. Micah and Risa's story is hot but it's also very touching, tender and heartbreaking too as she tries to trust again whilst he battles an enemy from his past.
This was published in '09 so I beg Audible to give us the other 4 books in the series - please please please.
Worth a credit? Well it ticked all my boxes and then some - so that would be a YES.
The story was just ok, the character chemistry was lacking. I may have enjoyed this better if the narration was different. I normally like this narrator but I didn't like the voice and dry way she narrated Micah, I also had a hard time with the way she pronounced specific words including the way she pronounced the hero's name, I've never heard Micah pronounced like Meekah and it drove me crazy.
Yes, if it is part of the KGI series - this series....NO.
Not as much as some of the other characters - particularly Jordan. Even though he redeemed himself a bit at the end. Not enough to make me like him. Too murky/gray in his motives. Too cold. He was willing to allow agents to be used and abused for the greater "good." Yikes, he was creepy to me.
I was very, very disappointed in this book. While the plot was good - there was too many wasted scenes trying to get to the plot. I don't mind gritty and I don't mind suspense, but I DO NOT like characters that are supposed to be the good guys coming across almost as disgusting as the bad guy. Jordan really turned me off and although he was a secondary character - I found it hard to believe this "team" was a team at all. They mostly came across as cold and dispassionate. As much as I enjoy a good steamy romance - this one was over the top - headed to raunchy. Plus, it came across that the multiple sex scenes were the author's attempt to cover all positions/ways they could do it. It did not always enhance the characters or the story. It just seemed excessively gratuitous. The KGI series is much, much better.
"Too confusing to read as a stand alone"
He was ok just too repetitive
She was ok just the story was weird
Honestly didn't finish it so really don't know or care
Not worth the money
I would like to have me a Maverick in my life -
The way she changes her voice to the story - love it -
I don't think making a film out of books - you do not get the full effect when a book is turned into a movie -
"One of the best books of the series"
The performance was strong, solid and pure. I was drawn into the story with the first page.
The narrarator kept my interest peaked. Her voice was enjoyable and pure.
The suspense and romance were over the top great.
This was my first and I look forward to future recordings.
This book brought both emotions to the forefront. I so wanted Risa to find her joy in life. Micha was intriguing and also desperate for a full life. Both made me cry with the horrors experience. Just a great read!
"Very good read"
I love the series - Micah/Maverick has always been one of my favorites - after Wild Card/Noah. That his heroine is strong yet so gentle is a wonderful foil for him
Where are the rest of the series???
"Hold onto your hats!"
Most definitely. It's not entirely believable but that's why I bought it. There were lots of twists and turns with a few laughs mixed in. Lora has a way of describing things just enough without overdoing it.
Risa because she was strong and feisty.
I think that this is one of her best. She really seemed to get into it.
I'm not entirely sure it would make a good movie but I guess I would out of curiosity.
This book will entertain you, no doubt about it.
I love Lora Leigh and I was so in love with Wild Card in which I listed to it twice.
With the above said, I couldn't wait for the next book in this series but will have to say I was extremely disappointed. I felt that the depth of the characters and the story line were severally lacking. I hope Book 3 gets back on track with the first........
I liked the storyline, but the romance between the characters was actually not "hot". I actually wanted to fast foward the sex scenes. I just didn't feel the chemistry.
It's at the bottom. I expect more from her.
Yes, I would enjoy a series, but only if they are more along the line of Wild Card. That one was awesome.
I would wait until it's on sale. Keep your credit for something else.
