Publisher's Summary

"One of today's automatic buy-today-read-tonight series...thoughtful but suspenseful, fast but lasting, contemporary but strangely timeless." (Lee Child)

In the extraordinary new Cork O'Connor thriller from New York Times best-selling and Edgar Award-winning author William Kent Krueger, the lives of hundreds of innocent people are at stake when Cork vanishes just days before his daughter's wedding.

Since the violent deaths of his wife, father, and best friend all occurred in previous Novembers, Cork O'Connor has always considered it to be the cruelest of months. Yet his daughter has chosen this dismal time of year in which to marry, and Cork is understandably uneasy. His concern comes to a head when a man camping in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness goes missing. As the official search ends with no recovery in sight, Cork is asked by the man's family to stay on the case. Although the wedding is fast approaching and the weather looks threatening, he accepts and returns to that vast wilderness on his own.

As the sky darkens and the days pass, Cork's family anxiously awaits his return. Finally certain that something has gone terribly wrong, they fly by floatplane to the lake where the missing man was last seen. Locating Cork's campsite, they find no sign of their father. They do find blood, however. A lot of it.

With an early winter storm on the horizon, it's a race against time as Cork's family struggles to uncover the mystery behind these disappearances. Little do they know, not only is Cork's life on the line, but so are the lives of hundreds of others.

A taut, suspenseful thriller, Manitou Canyon features everything readers love in a Cork O'Connor novel: a dramatic Northwoods setting, an intriguing view of the Ojibwe culture, an enigmatic crime, masterful storytelling, and more than a few surprises.

    "I love Cork"

I've never really been into this genre of book. Then I read "Ordinary Grace" by William Kent Kruger and I went hunting for any other books by him. That is how I got introduced to Cork O'Conner and I was hooked. I love how Mr. Kruger writes. He draws you into their lives and you feel like you know them. They are flawed, but that's part of why I love them. He always spins a good tale. I also appreciate that the characters grow and age as the series progresses. And David Chandler! He is the perfect narrator for this series. There were some in the middle done by a different narrator and I had to force myself to listen. David Chandler is my narrator crush. He makes each character sound distinct without it being a distraction.
I can't wait for the next Cork O'Conner! (And if you haven't read Ordinary Grace, do it now).

    "Barbara in Memphis"

Mr. Krueger, as usual, has written another example of excellent story telling. I have read every book he has written and have been waiting for this with child like enthusiasm. It has not disappointed, the story was riveting, new areas and characters, but still my old friends I so enjoy traveling with through the mysteries .
I will be recommending this book to all my family and friends. One of the best things about Mr. Krueger's writing is he doesn't mess it up with excessive violence, just enough to get his point across, or profanity. I would enjoy it just as much if there were no profanity, but I won't fault him for the few words that were used if he thought them necessary.
My two favorite characters are of course Cork and Henry, so very glad both are still strong.
Thank You Mr. Krueger for an exciting and beautifully written story, I look forward to your next book.
    God Bless you and your's.

I have listened to all his books, and this was just fine. But I thought the other ones were some what better written.

    "Good story but..."
Where does Manitou Canyon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've really enjoyed all of Krueger's books, some ear-read, some eye-read. I feel like an O'Connor family member and have followed the characters' lives for many years. This timely story, though somewhat predictable, held my interest. Unfortunately the experience was marred by the narrator's slow reading and lack of ability to vocally distinguish among the different players

Krueger can do better than this series and he should. Perhaps he has taken the chief character far enough.

    "Disappointing Story and Wooden Narration"

This is the first Willian Krueger Book I have listened to the story line was really off the mark, full of holes and the narration was ordinary. David Chandler's women's voices were almost laughable. I listened to the story based on reviews, reading further other reviewers have suggested to try listening to Krueger's other books which I will do, hopefully not all are narrated by David Chandler.

    "Krueger did not disappoint!"

November is a time for sadness for Cork due to past tragedies happening at this time of the year. A childhood friend of Cork's has disappeared without a trace in the boundary waters. Cork is hired to find his friend and is accompanied by the man's granddaughter. The mystery weaves and winds and brings about new situations and encounters. Meanwhile, Jenny is on the brink of her wedding to Daniel, but instead they are all looking for Cork.

Kruger's done it again. I waited anxiously for the next installment from one of my favorite authors. Cork was back to his usual adventures as was the family in terms of trying to save their patriarch. Did he need saving??? You'll have to listen in order to find out! Love the Minnesota backdrop!

    "Reading not to my tastes"

While I have read all of William Kent Krueger's books this is the first one I have listened to. I was disappointed with the readers style. I thought his reading of the book droned on. Too slow for the suspense of the story for my tastes. William Kent Krueger is one of my favorite authors so I stuck with the audio version.
