Summary

Jack Reacher has no place to go and all the time in the world to get there, so a remote railroad stop with the curious name of Mother's Rest seems perfect for an aimless one-day stopover. He expects to find a lonely tombstone in a sea of nearly ripe wheat...but instead there is a woman waiting for a missing private investigator, a cryptic note about 200 deaths, and a small town full of silent, watchful people.

Reacher’s one-day stopover turns into an open-ended stay....

Fasten your seatbelt for another nail-biting ride from the kick-ass master of the thriller genre!

Jack back on Home Turf

You've gotta love Jack Reacher! I thought I was going off him after the previous installment (Personal) which just seemed to lack something. But this is a genuine return to form. Reacher once again walks into a situation and Child reveals everything gradually building the suspense with his usual aplomb.

Jeff Harding voices this superbly, he is much more suited to the accents in this book than he was with Personal and in this context I think I could spend an hour listening to him reading just about anything! fantastic voice.

So, if you liked Reacher before you will like him again. To anyone who hasn't read Reacher before, the novels can be taken in any order if you want to.

Trouble with Reacher

I do not feel the author has come up to his usual standard and since seeing the film "Never go back" with Cruise as Reacher I now find it difficult to visualise a 6ft 5in 250lb blond crew cut ex soldier sorry but both the author and his character seem to have lost it.

thrilling ride as always

this narrator suits Jack none Reacher stories perfectly. the mystery that always exists at the middle of Reacher adventures was very well hidden then slowly and horrifyingly revealed. listened in only two days gripping as always. the horrific aspects were not too graphic for those somewhat squeemish listeners

Poor storyline

After listing to all the others back to back over the last few months, I found this very disappointing. The story started after about 6hrs.

Lee child flop

Having read and enjoyed all the Jack Reacher books this was by far the most boring with endless pages of small irrelevant detail.
It smacks of a forced effort

What a great book!

I've had to return a few books recently because the story was poor or the narrator wasn't good so It's a relief to find a book where everything comes together to create the perfect experience. It's a gripping story that builds at a cracking pace to a very exciting conclusion. Jeff Harding IS Jack Reacher for me.

Reacher rules in Action

Reacher is really the best. A great creation and wonderfully narrated. One of my faviourite Reacher books and unputdownable. Now I guess I have to wait unto Lee Child produces the next in this amazing series.

Disappointed

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I'm not sure any fan of Lee Child would enjoy this book

What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?

It feels like it wasn't written by Lee Child

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Harding?

The narrator was the best bit about this book

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Make Me?

The whole book needs rewriting

Any additional comments?

I am disappointed that the last 2 Jack Reacher books feel like they have been written by a ghost writer and not Lee Child himself. He should be embarrassed.
