Grace Meredith is the CIA's most deadly assassin. Too bad she's gone off the grid and become a mercenary for hire. After the death of her daughter by a sniper's bullet, Grace can no longer stomach the demands of agency life or keep herself from blaming the only man she's ever loved. Her mind and body are fragile, and she knows she's just a step away from breaking down completely.
Gabe Brennan holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. As one of the most brilliant black ops agents the CIA has ever employed, he knows it's no one's fault but his own that his child was gunned down in cold blood. He might not have been able to save his daughter, but he's determined to save his wife. He only has to find her first.
Sexual tension crackles between Gabe and Grace from the moment they're reunited, but between the man who is hunting them, a secret that's been buried for eighty years, and a turbulent past - the odds are stacked against them.

"007 Atmosphere and Hot!"
I love the 007 genre and this is very 007ish to me. It does have a little difference in that Gabe is in love with Grace and not every hot female that walks by, but that makes it even better. Don't worry though because theres more team members that love to chase the women.I know I'm going to love hearing about these sexy men in the next books in this series. Theres not many loves scenes but those that are in it pack a punch. This book is packed with all kinds of action like you would expect in a Bond movie, and for me thats all kinds of good.
This is the first time I've heard NML narrate and I must say he does a fine job. I love the timbre of his voice. He does a very good job with the various characters. I'm looking foward to hearing more of his work and Audible keep him for this series!!
If you haven't figured it out from my review so far, then YES it's worth the credit. My ears were thrilled with this one.
"Mission Impossible meets La Femme Nikita"
Michael did a great job narrating/reading this book. He made the listening experience much better.
Mission impossible meets La Femme Nikita. If you like action, spy, and romance, this is a good 1st book of a series. Even though, it's a series, I think you can read it as stand alone b/c each book is base on a different agent. This book was about Grace and Gabe.
Without giving too much away, here is the gist of the story. Grace and Gabe were married to each other and worked for the CIA for a long time during undercover works. Their daughter was murdered by one of Gabe's enemy. Their marriage fell apart after that. Both left CIA. Gabe started his own agency and Grace worked as a mercenary. Gabe got Grace to join his agency and help him with a mission to save the world from being killed by a nerve agent. Through this mission, they worked out their marriage.
Is it worth a credit? Definitely.
"OMG! They had a baby?!?!?!"
First off, I'm still shocked they had a baby!
Second off, I'm pissed their child's death didn't send him to hell and back finding the a-hole who her took her life. Perhaps it did, but this story is after the fact, so I felt he was cold and too busy trying to get in his exes pants.
Third, I was hoping the story was more about them coming back together as a strong solid unit to destroy piece by piece the empire, that the murderous a-hole of their daughter built.
(I had just watched the Equaizer before listening to this read) lol
Fourth, this turned out to be a good read but I'm always disappointed with these so called strong women getting their butts handed to them.
Getting their butts handed to them isn't the problem, sh't happens but I do be expecting a knock down, drag em in dirt, female roar of a fight against her opponent.
It gets close to that sometimes but it never really reaches the level where I believe, "oh that was a lucky shot from her opponent that brought her down."
So, I never see the females as strong (physically) because they always end up in a damsel in distress position. I know everyone can't be Sydney Bristol...but dang it why not switch the roles and have her come to his rescue?!?!?!
Finally, don't listen to my rant...I'm all about girl power since I had my daughter!!!💞
This truly is a fabulous read even though I did want more of the revenge angle.
This has action, lots of action, a great plot, with new and returning characters you could love! Well, except for that annoying 18 year old. Jeeze!! My mom and me just wanted to bash him over the head to keep his mouth shut. LOL 😝
This was an audiobook that I bought simply based off the author's name and how much I've enjoyed the J.J. Graves mystery books on audio. I didn't really pay that close of attention to the story description, so the story took me completely by surprise especially Grace's side of the story line.
Grace is a sniper. That in and of itself takes a strong person, but Grace has been living with one goal....revenge. She wants revenge on the man who's responsible for the murder of her daughter and if that costs her her life, well, then she's okay with that too. Grace is truly a shell.
The man who hates to see her this way is Gabe, her ex-husband. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get Grace to live and to care about living again, so he hires her to be part of his new black ops team, the Collective. The Collective is tracking a new biological weapon that has to be stopped before it hits the market.
I LOVED the set-up of this series. The story between Grace and Gabe was riveting and heart-breaking, but it also had serious steam and romance to it. But this book is so much more than that. There's a fabulous suspense story that kept me guessing around each turn. The Collective is a five-man team and I loved the way that all these guys interact.
The narrator did an amazing job with the accents and inflections for each of these characters so they each really stood out on the audio. There are a lot of scenes where all the characters are speaking to each other (all in the same scene) via earpieces and walkie talkies. I'm amazed at how effortlessly I was able to follow the scenes just by the narrators skill with the different voices. I'm usually not a huge fan of male narrators, but he did an AMAZING JOB!
Everything about this book was great. I cannot wait for more in this series...seriously, so well-done. I need some more Collective books pronto!
Gabe Brennan, "Mr Yummy" Grace's ex husband tracks her down and offers her a position on his team because she's the best sniper around and he needs her help. Sparks fly immediately between them and she tries to fight it but her body has always wanted Gabe. After dismissing his advances she finally agrees to take the position when he promises to help her track down the man who killed their daughter. Grace is a badass, broken down female character I wanted to hug and high five at the same time. Not only could this woman bring down a target over a mile away but she could grapple with a grown man in hand to hand combat. At first you start to think she is super human when she is able to shut off her emotions but during several scenes you get to see her vulnerability and I loved that. When she first comes to the group Gabe recruits her into she doesn't allow herself to joke or have fun and laugh because she feels guilty that her daughter is gone but she isn't. The group really comes to depend on her when the danger begins with her sniper capabilities and she ultimately becomes the hero. I really enjoyed this book. It has lot's of action and smoking sex scenes. I'll be snapping the next book in this exciting series :)
"Lots of Suspense and Hot Romance"
Excellent. Well written and entertaining story line. I liked the characters and loved what they were as much as who they were. I read at least 50 Romantic Suspense novels a year and this is my favorite for 2013. Can't wait for the next one!
Really liked the narrator. He did a very good job. I'll look for more of his narrations.
"Kill Shot A Must Read!!"
This was an exceptionally written book. From the plot to every character the story played out like an awesome spy based action movie.
Gabe and Grace were two of the CIA's best operatives. Gabe, for his black ops work, and Grace for her skills as a sniper. They not only got married, which is frowned upon in there line of work, but they also had a child which is not a smart thing to do with the amount of enemies that they both get in their line of work. Then two years ago the worst thing imaginable happened. Their daughter was killed as payback for one of Gabe's ops.
Grace leaves both CIA and Gabe and goes mercenary. All she wants is her revenge and doesn't care if she is alive at the end of it. Gabe also left the CIA but started his own group of black ops agents called The Collective. When The Collective gets a mission stop a chemical weapon that can cause genocide Gabe decides it time to bring Grace in to help them with their mission and for them to finally come to terms with what happened 2 years ago.
Even though Grace was a deadly assassin and tough as nails on the inside she was a mess. Your heart broke for her for what she was going through emotionally but yet you were also rooting for Gabe who loved her heart and soul and refused to give up on her. Their healing journey throughout the book all while doing missions and having some very hot make up sex was powerful.
The rest of the members that make up The Collective were as badass as Gabe. Well except for the 18 year old computer genius he was more like comic relief. The story from beginning to end just flowed. There were no lull moments. The worst part about the book was it had to end. Looking forward to the next book in this amazing series.
Noah Michael Levine was outstanding with the delivery of the story
"A marriage of deathly assassins"
What happens when two of the best CIA agents become husband and wife? What happens when someone is insane enough to kill their daughter? Read it. It was unique because of their relationship.
They are parents suffering over the murder of their child. That traumatic experience rips them. That happens to many people when they lose someone from such a heinous and violet act. Losing a child, a young child is not in the circle of life. A parent should never have to bury a child. For those of us who are bankers, housewives, doctors etc. We must put our faith in the law to find the murder.
When you are one of the CIA best assassins, you go to work hunting for the killer. Sanction kill or not, you travel around the world to kill the man who changed your life forever. One parent grief become so consuming that his/her skills are compromised. Without the love of a family the other creates an organization which becomes the CIA assassination team.
So there is lots of action and a few tender moments.
"good reviews on this one"
it was read by a man who does a very good woman's voice.
this had romance and 007 type of story which is not easy to do. Author did a very nice job of staying with the theme of the book. Very refreshing listen after so many 50 SOG type books.
first time, and it would depend on the story he reads...I can not put my finger on what made me not fully crazy about his reading style. I think the reader did not make our hero sound as ruthless as everyone says he should have been. He did make Jack's character rich so next book should be even better.
I did listen all the way in one day
Nice lead into jack's story...I love his character. Author will have to make the tempo and read in the same vain as this one.
