Kat and Scott Hamilton are dealing with the hardest of losses: the death of their only child. While Scott throws himself back into his law practice in Los Angeles, Kat is hesitant to rejoin the workplace and instead spends her days shell-shocked and confused, unable to focus.
When an unwelcome face from Kat's past in England emerges - the beautiful and imposing Sarah Cherrington - Kat's marriage is thrown into a tailspin. Now wealthy beyond anything she could have imagined as a girl, Sarah appears to have everything she could need or want. But Sarah has an agenda and she wants one more thing. Soon Kat and Scott are caught up in her devious games and power plays.
Against the backdrops of Southern California and Sussex, in spare and haunting prose, Mary McCluskey propels this domestic drama to its chilling conclusion.

"A real page turner"
Fabulous suspense story. My heart ached for Kat. Her grief was so intense, and reader and author did a fabulous job of bringing that alive. The descriptions were thorough enough to draw me in, but not so overwhelming that I wanted to turn it off.
"You Had Me Right Up to the Lackluster Ending"
I was intrigued by this book and couldn't wait to see where it went, but it was a bit of a let down. It kept me engaged the entire time, but the ending was abrupt and left something to be desired.
"touching and well crafted"
Though written in the third person, the telling of a mother's grief is thorough and touching. The title is a hint that all is not what it seems and the story proceeds at an excellent pace to the final revelation and satisfying result.
"recommend for ofhers. the narrative was great."
great book for listening. interesting twist at end. highly recommend for others. believable complicated characters.
"overall....wonderful listen. twist out of the blue"
this book was wonderful. The narration was spot on between the characters and their accents for home origin wad awesome. I was seriously surprised by the twist. I find I can usually call it, never saw this one coming! Great listen for anyone. The story makes you feel for the characters. It is so common for a lot of people so the relate ability is wonderful. The narrator has such a smooth comforting voice she just lulls you through the story. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who wants heartfelt without mushy...a little struggle and some strong, independent women main characters who lead you through a surprising plot!
"Loved this book!
Great plot! Loved this book. Well written and the narrator was wonderful! I really enjoyed listening and reading along.
"Worth listening to"
Although I did not find the book as thrilling or as much of a psychological thriller as claimed, I did find it entertaining. The ending, in my opinion, was predictable. This was still a good book. It is very difficult to come up with a new story line so most are just a twist on stories that have already been written. This does a good job of that and is worth the time. The narrator does a fine job, she was easy to listen to and kept it interesting. This is a book I would recommend for a light read. I did receive this book at no cost in exchange for my honest and unbiased review from audiobook boom.
"One big cliché"
The book started well, but after the first few chapters descended into cliché-ridden, unlikable and predictable characters. This book is a soap opera that revolves around wealthy and uninspiring characters. Probably the most interesting one could have been the antagonist... but the author ruins her about halfway through the book.
The protagonist, Sarah, I just wanted to slap.
I did read/listen to the whole thing though, so it wasn't so bad that I turned it off. Overall, very mediocre, predictable, with stock characters who behave in a cardboard fashion.
Karen Peakes's narration was decent.
"This one kind of drug on, And on, and on"
The characters were fairly interesting, and the storyline started out okay, but could have been so much more thorough and exciting. The ending was nowhere near as climactic as I was hoping it to be. I was hoping for much more destruction throughout the book from the main antagonist, which never really seemed to occur.
"just okay no exciting moments
okay. nothing exciting no exciting moments or ending kind of bland was waiting for more exciting moments to jump at
