Summary

An Evil Mind was Chris Carter's most acclaimed novel to date, described by the Daily Mail as "[a] chilling, compulsive portrait of a psychopath, and proves that Carter is now in the Jeffrey Deaver class." It spent three weeks in the Sunday Times top 10 and received brilliant reviews and sales.

This terrifying new standalone thriller reunites Hunter and Garcia in their most explosive case to date.

Too gory for me

The story was intensely timed, and very well read, but I had to skip the gory murders - good solution for the end though!

Quite Decent

Book was ok, narrator was fantastic again. Didnt think this book was as good as the earlier stories in the series.

disappointed with reader

I have listened to the first 5 of this series and read parts 6 and 7. this is the first time that I have listened with this reader.
To start with, I'm so used to hearing how Hunter and others speak due to the voice actor taking on the different voices and tones. so in my hearing, Hunter is deep voiced and gravel sounding, Garcia is softly spoken with Mexican accent, the chief is hard and sharp. So my problem is, didn't this reader listen to any of the other series? He completely changed the voices around. Hunter was softly spoken, Garcia was deep voiced and the chief sounded like a girly girl rather then a tough woman. It was also very difficult to understand who was talking as the voice actor would often slip out of the voice and go into his own. So it all ended up very confusing and the worst book for me as I lost intrest. Thank God the original voice reader is back for the next book otherwise I would of given up.
All the characters have a southern accent due to this being how the reader speaks which also confuses you due to this being set in L.A.
The editing was also dreadful. You could hear the cuts and slight mistakes that the reader made. Not a good production.
BUT......apart from the above, once I got into the book, I often drifted in and out of interest I have to admit, this book was very good for the parts I paid interest in. Gruesome like the others with a very sad part involving a little boy.
This for me is the weakest book, all thanks to the reader and bad editing.

Twisted listening but good

Took a while to get used to the narrator , as the last few books have been a different one , so was a shame to change .

As good as ever.

One again Hunter is faced with a killer with a penchant for extreme cruelty in his methods. Well written and none stop.

As substantial as a Yorkshire pudding.

Yes, a good Yorkshire pudding is nice but where's the rest? The gravy? The meat? The flavour?

No surprise, there is death in this, but only for a moment my interest was perked at a particular gross moment only to slope back into mediocrity.

I was left not caring about any characters and there was no sense of atmosphere. An attempt was made. Kinda of.

As usual an excellent read ! How Chris Carter comes up with his sickening and gruesome story lines I do not know ! Highly recommend this book !
