On the first day of her new job in the West Country, Detective Sergeant Kate Redman finds herself investigating the kidnapping of Charlie Fullman, the newborn son of a wealthy entrepreneur and his trophy wife. It seems a straightforward case...but as Kate and her fellow officer Mark Olbeck delve deeper, they uncover murky secrets and multiple motives for the crime.

good story completely destroyed by narration

Would you try another book written by Celina Grace or narrated by Samara Naeymi?

Yes I would try a book by Celina Grace but wouldn't listen to samara naeymi if my life depended on it. One character had three different accents. Appalling. Totally destroyed this book. I had to turn off and won't be returning to it.

Would you recommend Hushabye: A Kate Redman Mystery, Book 1 to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes but not the audible version due to poor poor narration.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Samara Naeymi?

Anyone else.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I couldn't complete listening to this book.

Spoiled by v poor narration and accents

I found it impossible to take the narrator seriously. Disappointing. The accents were awful. I couldn't tell where any of the characters were supposed to come from. Irritating to say the least 😡

Ok story ruined by awful narration

The story was pretty good but I struggled to continue listening to it due to the awful narration. Not sure what accents were being attempted here but they failed miserably!

What language is this in?

If you want to hear the English language slaughtered then here’s your chance. I suspect that it’s not her first language but if it is she must have a poor vocabulary as there are so many words which seem unfamiliar to her.
The story was indifferent so avoid this one.

The worst narration I've ever heard

The book was ok - it had half decent storyline and the characters had potential, but I have absolutely zero inclination to read the subsequent books after the horrendous narration, in particular the accents. There were a few times I actually involuntarily laughed out loud at how ridiculous they were, and how not like any English accent any of them were. Completely offputting, and I'm dismayed to see that the second book has the same narrator. - i'll give it a miss.

Good plot, weak narrator

I'm still trying to work out the accent of DI Alderton!! The story was intriguing and characterisation strong. Shame about the calibration of narration.

Enjoyable Read

As crime stories go this is no thriller. I felt it quite predictable. An enjoyable read none the less.

Apalling Narration

The narration of this book should surely win a prize for the most dreadful Irish accent, apart from other bad accents and mispronunciations. It would be better not to attempt accents if you can't do them well.
