An ISIS-style beheading of a journalist, carried out by a New York City group pledging fealty to that rogue state, becomes more than just another case for NYPD Captain Nikki Heat when the killers announce their next target: her husband, magazine writer Jameson Rook. Meanwhile, Heat is haunted by a fleeting glimpse of someone she swears is her mother, a woman who has been dead for nearly 20 years.

"Lame story plus excessively politically correct"
High Heat is Novel #8 in the Detective Nikki Heat series. I've listened to all 8 and this is the only one to qualify as UTTERLY PATHETIC. This series is a spinoff of the Castle TV show with Rook being Castle and Heat being Beckett. Some of the earlier books in the series are fun listens. This one is not. The left wing political correctness is the most disappointing part of this novel. It is grossly excessive. I suppose it is what one should expect from Disney - ABC during a national election.
The ending sets up a future novel either in the Nikki Heat or Derrick Storm series.
"Sorry I Purchased"
Such a disappointing read. Propaganda at ever turn. I read for entertainment our education and this was neither.
"Kept me interested till the very end!"
Really enjoyed this book and the twists and turns it had. Riveting and kept you guessing. Love the ending and can't wait for the next one!!!!
"It turns up the heat!"
Very entertaining and kepted me intrigued. Loved the castle references. Keep going. Looking forward to more.
"Not the best one..."
I've listened to all of the "Richard Castle" books, and while this is not the best Nikki Heat novel, does further the overall story arch, almost as a bridge to something new. There is a D.J. Trump-like character running for President, which could upset many of the Trumpettes, but otherwise I found the story line a little too predictable. Perhaps we are dealing with a novice ghostwriter. Nonetheless, it is entertaining and, in places, gripping. I'm not ashamed to admit I enjoyed this Heat novel.
"Well written until..."
The cliffhanger ending. I have enjoyed these books overall with their engaging writing and stellar performance but this one was disappointing for one major reason. Watching Nikki backslide into old habits so quickly and than cliffhanger-ing the reader was sloppy and cheap. Up until the last twenty minutes or so of this book I was on board for the fun if not sometimes ridiculous ride that is a Nikki Heat novel.
"interesting ending - interesting candidate"
I enjoyed the continuation of the "Heat" story & the reference (s) to the current campaign environment. very interesting ending. Mr. Petkopp does an excellent job narrating (as usual).
"High Heat review"
I have enjoyed everyone of Richard Castles books. His books pull me into the story, and they won't let me go until the very end. The narration is excellent as always. I can hardly wait until the next book!
"Great Story, Great Mystery, Great Narration"
I was a fan of the Castle tv series and was disappointed when the series was cancelled. This book allowed the story to continue. The story was well told and well narrated. Loved it!
"Excellent and fast paced addition to the series"
I enjoyed his latest entry into the Nikki Heat series. It was very topical and quite enjoyable. The emotional development of Nikki in this one is nice to see.
Looks like it's time to read some Storm novel's now.
