An exciting new detective noir series but this time set in England.
Thomas Blume retired from the NYPD and moved to London following the murder of his wife, a reporter on assignment there, and their son. Determined to find the killer, Blume instead loses himself in an alcoholic haze just funding himself enough by taking on seedy PI jobs. Until six months later when a woman comes calling ...
When I started to listen to this book, the narrator seemed too downbeat and staccato in delivery but it rapidly became obvious how well suited was his delivery to the writing style. Jay Pritchard's reading was slick and dialogue was distinctive for each character but, sadly, the accents for any British protagonist was totally un-English. Which was most of them. Not that it mattered... The world weary American was perfect.
This detective story is very noir and a great introduction to what, I hope, will be a long series. Great to have a laid back American facing life as a PI without his gun and hampered by the ongoing rain in London.
I received a complimentary copy of Hard Fall from the author, narrator or publisher, via. Audiobook Boom, in exchange for an unbiased review. This I have given.
"An action packed novella!"
I quite enjoyed this dark and gritty novella. It is a mixture of thriller, noir, and hard-boiled detective all nicely wrapped together into one well written story line. Thomas Blume is an enticing character, too, being a former cop from New York turned vindictive alcoholic PI stranded in London England. I think my only issue with this story is that I often forget that it is set in London… London is such a vibrant city, but there are barely any details in this book that make that aspect stand out. Nonetheless, the delightfully resentful protagonist along with the well written action scenes outshine the lack setting.
As for the narration, this is the first time I’ve listened to a book narrated by Jay Prichard, and wow! I hope he will narrate more hard-boiled PI books in the future, because his gruff voice is absolutely perfect for it, and he really did an outstanding job giving life to Thomas Blume! However, I need to note that he does not do any British accents… which really contributed to my forgetting that this book is supposed to be set in London England.
Overall, I’m impressed with this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone out there looking for a high action thriller/noir detective story that isn’t several hours long. Hard Fall is immensely satisfying despite its short length!

"A Start To An Action Packed Detective Series"
Thomas Blume is on the case as a PI in London. Someone has murdered his family and his only way of coping is trying to solve unsolvable crimes.
The former NY detective, Blume must chart his way among citizens as well as a police system that he is unfamiliar with to help others as he works through his anger and grief.
A twist at the end sets this story in a direction that most will not see coming…
PT Reade weaves a challenging narrative in the first book of the series.
Jay Prichard is fantastic, as he performs the gritty Thomas Blume as well as the many other characters we get to meet. He is a professional and takes us into the heart of Blume.
I did have a little bit of trouble keeping everyone straight, however this is par for the course [I find] with almost any first in the series book. The author needs to introduce characters that aren't relevant now but will be relevant later on.
There are a few curses and descriptions of violence, to those of you who would like to avoid such things. For the style of book in the genre, it is in these things are very mild when compared to other work.

"Hard Fall: Thomas Blume, Book 1"
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”
A good start to a new series. Former New York cop moves to England to hunt down the murderer of his wife and son. Thomas Blume is a flawed man on a mission. Will he get deported before he solves the murders. A few turns that were unexpected. I look forward to more in this series.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.
'm not a person who tells you the story in my reviews rather if it's a good story to me, the development of characters, good triumphs over evil in a semi realistically with some heroism this novel for me does that.
"Can't wait for the next book!"
Twists and turns kept you guessing.
The story moved quickly and kept your attention.
No but his diction and knowledge of the characters was very good.
When we learn that his friend might betray him at the very end makes me want to listen to the next book!

Reminds me of the video game Max Payne. Will definitely wait for more chapters to come out.
Fast paced with a good story. A great book for those times when you really need a distraction from reality. Engrossing, easy reading that takes you away and leaves you hungry for more. Really enjoyed it!
Great read! It kept my interest from beginning to end. The main character, Thomas Blume, comes off as a very human character, struggling on with life while dealing with a tragic, heart-wrenching personal loss. The story was very satisfying, and left me wanting more when it ended.
"A quick action packed story"
Having lived in London UK. I could feel the cold damp rainy days as Blume was driving or walking the streets. Some of the descriptions toward the end are gritty and help you realize the depravity of the monster Blume is after. The voice of the narrator was flat as he read the story, some of the voices we ok, but could not do a British or London accent or Indian/Pakistani. Maybe if Jay read ahead so he knew what was coming he might get a bit of variation and excitement in his tone. Overall a fun listen and a quick read. Will be on the lookout for book 2 in Audible.
