Publisher's Summary

Meet Thomas. Thomas is having a rough go. His girl left him. He's alone on Thanksgiving. He's out of waffles. And now someone is trying to kill him.

His love life in shambles, Thomas Prescott returns to Seattle, the very place he fled from after his parents' deaths nearly a decade earlier. Just as Thomas is getting settled in, he sees a body floating in the private cove behind his boyhood home. It is a woman. But not just any woman - the governor of Washington. As the suspense ratchets and the twists unfold, Thomas is thrown into the middle of the biggest murder investigation in Washington state history. Prescott is forced to confront the demons from his past and unearths a new enemy, one that couldn't possibly be human, one that has haunted man since the dawn of time....

    "Narration"

The narrator voice sounded to immature and grating . Made everything sound dumb. I just could not get into the story .

    "Entertaining"

This is my first review. I mostly enjoyed the characterization in this novel, especially the amusing and undoubtedly irritating protagonist, and his offbeat geriatric friend. The plot is wildly improbable (but this is, after all, a novel), and has plenty of twists and turns. It made a refreshing change from Scandinavian Noir, and cookie cutter serial killer offerings, though it has its share of gruesome passages. Swearing? Some, though not much. Sex? Some, but not at all graphic. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a whodunit, with some romance, but who can't abide Cosy, Cookies, Chocolate or Cats. There are wolves, though. Hungry ones.

    "I'm hooked on Mr. Prescott."

This was the first book I've listened to on Audible and now I'm addicted. What an entertaining story with very intriguing characters(that Prescott). Thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and kept me engaged the whole time. A must read or listen to!

"Would give it 6 stars if I could."

Loved the narration, loved the way Thomas' story is told, and the humor in the telling as well as the unexpected twists leave the reader with a smile. An added bonus is the Pacific Northwest setting to make me feel like I'm right at home.

    "Revels in blood and gore!"

Well written but never missing an opportunity for foul language, smashed, ravaged, and bloody bodies. For lovers of blood and gore.

    "Giving up on this audiobook"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Caveat: I'm giving up on this audiobook, even though I'm only about one-third thru it.

To raise my ratings, this is what's needed:
1. A plot that I was more drawn into.
2. A protagonist that I liked, even a little bit. Like some other reviewers, I found him irritating.
3. Less distraction from unbelievable plot points. Example: lawyer talks to stranger who claims he's with the FBI, without asking to see ID.
4. Less distraction from the fact that the author does not know Seattle at all. My mistake for expecting a realistic depiction I guess. Example: he speaks about "jumping off the Seattle bridge," but there's no bridge with that name in Seattle.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nick Pirog again?

Perhaps something outside the Thomas Prescott series.

How could the performance have been better?

To me, Barak amplified the aspects of Prescott's personality that I have grown tired of.

    "Great story telling"

I really enjoyed the story line, the character development was well done and I liked how the story flowed. I don't get a chance to read very often but did enjoy the overall pace & looked forward to when I had time to get back & read.
