The first child was taken from her house.
The second from his mother's car.
The third from her own bedroom....
When Helen and Sean Phillips go out for the evening, leaving their teenage daughter babysitting little Frankie, they have no idea that they are about to face every parent's greatest fear.
Detective Inspector Patrick Lennon is hopeful that the three children who have been abducted in this patch of south-west London will be returned safe and well. But when a body is found in a local park, Lennon realizes that time is running out - and that nothing in this case is as it seems....
Blending police procedural with psychological thriller, From the Cradle will have every parent checking that their children are safe in their beds...then checking again.

I am frankly amazed at how good this is. I have read books by Mark Edwards before, and they were good, but this is in another league. Perhaps this is the result of Louise Voss' contribution, I don't know. What made this so good was how richly drawn each character was, allowing the listener/reader to learn interesting and important things about many of them long into the book. As a consequence, there were many surprises and 'ah ha' moments right through to the end. These moments, and the little twists, never felt contrived. There was much suspense, but it was written with a light touch. The DCI Patrick Lennon, is worth a particular mention. I'm really disappointed that this is a stand alone novel. I would love a series with this character. He was so human, flawed, but in a subtle way and very likeable.
This is a great listen, well narrated. Great story with many twists and turns. Interesting observations of different relationships. Recommend
...one thought got it all figured out right at the end. Definitely an engaging story. Well recommended and as usual, from Mark E and Louise V, not disappointing.
It was Ok. Not the best book I have listened too, and certainly not the worst. There were some plot holes that you could drive a bus through (the actual kidnap for one!), but there were also some twists that I didnt see coming!I did keep 'zoning out', and to be honest, I finished it about 2 weeks ago and as I scrolled through my library to see what book to listen to next, I thought "Oh, did I read that?" and had trouble to recall the story - It clearly didnt make a huge impact on me! No I do recall it though and to be honest I wouldn't actively seek out more book by this author.
I thought this storyline was good, if maybe a bit far fetched, but the writing was clumsy and a bit juvenile in parts. It was easy enough listening but not as slick as it could have been.
Absolute gripping story.
The twists and turns.
Could not turn it off, but sadly had too. Great read and listen,
First of all props to the great narration as it was very convincing and not annoying as some others can be.
Great storyline that keeps you in suspense throughout.
Story depicts every parents worst nightmare......child abduction. Without giving too much away they're many twists and turns and when all is revealed it will blow your mind to see what secret lies beneath this seemingly 2.4 children family who seem to have it all.
My most favourite character is the lead detective on the case Patrick who has his own personal demons to battle with, concerning his wife and what she did to their daughter. Plus the guilt he battles daily as his elderly parents are left holding the baby, so to speak. Not to mention his rival Winkler who is in contention for his job and fancies himself a bit too much aka The Fonz!
This is a 'can't put down book' that I highly recommend.
Love audiobooks, keeps my hands free to do housework or drive.
long winded ending. plot rather sordid and somewhat unrealistic but entertaining enough. a few subplots embedded within.
"Troublesome novel about kidnapped children"
From the Cradle is detective mystery about the abuse and kidnapping of very young children. It was difficult for me to listen to and now that I am finished I regret it. The book is excellent, but I cannot recommend it.
"Intense and thrilling."
This novel had a great storyline. It was full of raw emotion and had the most surprising twist. Lots of characters in the mix but surprisingly no one was lost.
"Beguiling story, with many surprises"
I won't give away anything, but this was a creepy story with lots of plot twists. The author did a good job of looking into the murky personalities of many characters. The end is a shock. This is the first book I've read by these authors, and I will look for more from them.
Couldn't turn it off. A great way to spend a day with a cold. No interruptions. quite gripping.
"Read in the wrong order..."
I picked up
This book after reading The Blissfully Dead- which was the wrong order! I must say that, though I wish I had done it the proper way, I very much enjoyed both books and am snatching up everything by these authors!
"Parents worst nightmare"
Very well written and performed! I loved every minute of it!! Can't wait to read the next one!
"Awesome combo - these two create stellar mysteries"
although these two author's are great by themselves, as a duo they create an intricately wound clever mysteries that are also fascinating character studies, they are talented chroniclers of the "human condition". Give 'em a listen; I think you will be impressed because their main characters are interesting and draw you in although they are attractively fallible (and more believable for it)!
"HORRIBLE!! I'm a fan of Mark, but not this book!!"
HORRIBLE!! I'm a fan of Mark Edwards however, this book was the worst I've ever ever listened to....should be "0" stars.
