A terrifyingly gripping thriller of East End violence and corruption.
Eleven years ago Marie Carter was convicted of killing her two best friends. And she's paid the price. Now she is being released from prison. It's time to go home. But life has moved on, and Marie has nowhere to go. Her parents have disowned her; her friends have abandoned her; even her kids don't want to know.
But some people out there are watching her, following her every move - they know that Marie Carter wants retribution.

hard-hitting, realistic, addictive
The shocking twist at the end of the book will leave you reeling
The moment when Maria finds out the shocking family secret.
When Tiffany passes away, I felt genuine grief.
This book is a must read for anyone who loves books with twist and turns in every chapter. This book had me addicted, from the first chapter.
Martina's writing takes you into a world that's filled with betrayal, violence which doesn't always make for an easy read.
Yes and have done already. It's a good story.
Marie Carter. She's a great character
All of the Southern characters are Annie's best. I can't say I like the Northern accents.
Not really. I did really enjoy the story though.
Another great story from a brilliant crime writer more please. Just not enough on audible for easy listening to this writer
I've read a few Martina Cole books, but this is the first Audio book I've listened to.
I decided to try audio books, as due to one reason or other I'm struggling concentrating with reading atm. I found this easy and enjoyable to listen to. I hooked my phone up to the car, so was listening to and from work. The same when I was cooking in the kitchen, as just put my phone on the docking station.
I must say I was very impressed with the narrator. Loved all her accents, she sounds straight out of Eastenders, a proper cockney accent!
The story itself doesn't fail. Usual Martina Cole - drugs, prostitution and crime.
Might be a small thing and local to my useless brain but repetitive use of same words/expressions really annoyed me this time around. Won't stop me listening to others from Martina Cole though.
Marie is amazingly strong. the evil characters such as Patrick are also very entertaining, can't stop till the end!
very sad , but so happy about the ending . gripping, horrible, inspired, reminded me of friends.
good listen, gave me something to listen to most days.
